CJ Ross: I Stand Behind My Decision …. The Fight Was a Draw!

by TMZ Staff – The boxing judge being ripped apart for scoring the Mayweather/Canelo fight as a draw tells TMZ she doesn’t care what the critics say … insisting she called the fight correctly.

Judge C.J. Ross tells us “I stand behind my decision” and isn’t phased by all the ferocious criticism she’s received from both experts and amateurs.

In case you missed it — Floyd Mayweather scored a convincing victory over Saul “Canelo” Alvarez last night … but C.J. was the only judge to score them evenly.

After the fight, boxing expert Teddy Atlas went on ESPN and said Ross’ score was a travesty and suggested she was paid off by gamblers.

pascal34 MONTREAL (September 1, 2013) — Last week, GYM confirmed that World Boxing Council (WBC), The Ring Magazine and linear world light heavyweight champion, Adonis “Superman” Stevenson ( 21-1-0 , 18 KOs), will defend his crown for the first time against former International Boxing Federation (IBF) light heavyweight champion Tavoris “Thunder” Cloud (24-1-0, 19 KOs). The titanic collision will take place at the Bell Centre in Montreal on Saturday, September 28 and will be broadcast live worldwide by HBO Sports USA.

GYM recently confirmed the Sept. 28th participation of the former WBC light heavyweight, The Ring Magazine and linear world light heavyweight champion, Jean Pascal (22-2-1, 16 KOs), against George “Honey Boy” Blades (23-4-2, 16 KOs). WBC #2-rated Pascal will be fighting for the first time since defeating Aleksy Kuziemski in December, 2012.

Andre Ward Greets Passionate Throng of Fans at Los Angeles Appearance

(OAKLAND, CALIF.) – Super Middleweight World Champion Andre Ward (Oakland, Calif.) recently hosted a meet and greet opportunity in conjunction with Everlast and Sports Chalet in the Los Angeles area, taking the opportunity to connect with his southern California fan base. The number ranked two pound-for-pound boxer in the world was touched by the lengths that his fans went to for the chance to meet him.

As he boarded his flight in Oakland, fans were already beginning to line up, more than four hours ahead of his scheduled appearance time. After arriving at the location, he saw the long line of people waiting to meet him, many of whom had traveled a great distance to get their own autograph and photo with the Olympic champion.

Hometown Throwdown

by Earl Orr VNewz: It was an exciting night of fights at the Las Vegas Sports Center last night, as Pochiro Promotions put together their first card, entitled “Hometown Throwdown”. The event was one of what is expected to be many more in the near future. It featured six bouts, with referees Tony Weeks and Robert Byrd alternating as the third men in the ring.

In the first fight, Bronson Stultz (Henderson, NV) scored the sole knockout of the evening over Eric Goodall, who put up a good fight until the accumulation of body punches thrown by Stultz eventually weakened and diminished him in the third round.

Next up, Cameron Krael (3-4-2, 0 KO) of Las Vegas, NV won a unanimous decision over Wilber Lopez in a four-round bout. Krael put up a good showing by walking Lopez down and pinning him against the ropes multiple times. He was also able to avoid many of Lopez’s power punches.

Tua-Ustinov postponed until November 16th

DAVID Tua’s shot at redemption via the Hydr8 ZERO David vs Goliath blockbuster bout against Belarusian heavyweight Alexander Ustinov has been postponed until Saturday November 16.

It was thought that the fight – originally slated for Claudelands Arena on August 31 – would be put back to late September after the Tuamanator picked up a minor grade 1 calf muscle injury last week.

Andre Berto to have shoulder surgery

(LOS ANGELES, CALIF.) – Former two-time Welterweight World Champion Andre Berto (Winter Haven, Fla.) will undergo surgery to repair a torn tendon in his right shoulder on Wednesday in Los Angeles. Berto suffered the painful and debilitating injury in the second round of his July 27th bout with Jesus Soto Karass at the At&T Center in San Antonio, and was forced to endure the majority of the fight with one arm. Wednesday’s surgery will repair the main supporting tendon of the rotator cuff in Berto’s right shoulder.

David Tua injured, fight with Alexander Ustinov still on

THE highly anticipated heavyweight clash between David Tua and Alexander Ustinov has not yet been postponed, promoter David Higgins said today.

Tua, who is slated to fight the giant Russian in their Hyrd8ZERO David vs Goliath blockbuster at Claudelands’ Arena on August 31, suffered a minor calf strain while training.

The initial professional advice from Team Tua’s doctor is that it is a Grade One tear – the least serious of muscle strains.

Mr Higgins – whose company Duco Events is promoting the Hyrd8ZERO David vs Goliath show – said Tua will continue to be accessed over the next few days.

Ware” Stiverne (21-1, 20 KOs) upset Chris Arreola (35-3, 30 KOs) on HBO this past April 27, in a title elimination bout, it set-up the dangerous Canadian for a super fight versus future Hall of Famer and long-time World Boxing Council (WBC) World Heavyweight Champion, Vitali Klitschko (45-2, 41 KOs).

Stiverne completely dominated former world title challenger Arreola, dropping him in the third round, en route to a unanimous 12-round decision (118-109, 117-110, 117-110) for the vacant WBC Silver title.

A purse bid was set and postponed, reset and re-postponed. Finally, July 22 was supposed to be the final purse bid date when, surprisingly, the WBC once again granted another extension requested by the Team Klitschko, forcing the mandatory challenger to wait once again for his world title shot that he has now earned twice by winning a pair “title elimination” bouts. WBO No. 1 contender Stiverne, who is also rated No. 10 in the world by The Ring Magazine, had knocked out Ray Austin in the 10th round of their WBC heavyweight title eliminator on June 25, 2011.
