Robert Guerrero wants out of contract with Golden Boy Promotions

guerrero6789 After getting his dream fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. last year in May and promptly losing it badly, former two division world champion Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (31-2-1, 18 KO’s) reportedly wants out of his contract with Golden Boy Promotions. CEO of Golden Boy Richard Schaefer doesn’t understand why Guerrero would want to leave, as he got him the Mayweather fight, and also got him a fight against Andre Berto. Schaefer recently offered him a fight against unbeaten Keith Thurman last December, but Guerrero turned that fight down for some reason.

Guerrero will try to break the contract by going through arbitration with the California State Athletic Commission, according to ESPN. However, the contract was signed in New York, so it’s possible that they will need to hear this instead of the California Commission.

Floyd Sr: Pacquiao could beat Bradley this time

pac554455 Manny Pacquiao and his team still haven’t announced who his next opponent will be for his April 12th fight, but it’s assumed that WBO welterweight champion Timothy Bradley will be the one facing him, as long as he doesn’t price himself out of the fight by asking beyond what Top Rank is willing to give him to be the B-side.

Floyd Mayweather Sr. says he was really impressed with what he saw of Pacquiao in his win over Brandon Rios last November, and based on that fight he feels that Pacquiao could be too much for Bradley in a rematch. Floyd Sr. thought the previous Pacquiao-Bradley fight was one that could have gone either way. He didn’t think Bradley clearly won it or Pacquiao.

Is Tim Bradley pricing himself out for the Pacquiao fight?

bradley17 - Copy The negotiations between Manny Pacquiao (55-5-2, 38 KO’s) and WBO welterweight champion Timothy Bradley (31-0, 12 KO’s) are dragging out a lot longer than what many boxing experts expected it to for their proposed April 12th rematch at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. According to Steve Kim, Bradley is asking for an $8 million guarantee for the rematch with Pacquiao, which is above the $5 million that he received in their previous fight in June of 2012.

That fight brought in close to 900,000 PPV buys. But with Pacquiao losing that one, and then getting stopped by Juan Manuel Marquez in December of 2012, the interest in Pacquiao’s fights may have dropped off with boxing fans. His last fight against Brandon Rios brought in just 475,000 PPV buys.

Arum wants Bradley-Marquez rematch, if Pacquiao selects Provodnikov for next fight

bradley#1 If Manny Pacquiao chooses not to fight WBO welterweight champion Tim Bradley in a rematch on April 12th, and instead face his former sparring partner Ruslan Provodnikov, then Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum is interested in putting together a rematch between Bradley and Juan Manuel Marquez. Presumably the Bradley-Marquez fight would then be the co-feature for Pacquiao’s bout against Provodnikov in April.

It makes a lot of sense to have Marquez on the card, because without Marquez, who Arum wanted to face Pacquiao in a 5th fight, Pacquiao’s next fight might not bring in the huge pay-per-view numbers that he’s been accustomed to getting in the past when matched against Marquez and Miguel Cotto. Arum has struck out when matching Pacquiao against Bradley, Joshua Clottey and Brandon Rios in getting big PPV numbers.

Kovalev expected back on March 15th

kovalev57 WBO light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev (23-0-1, 21 KO’s) is expected back in the ring on March 15th in a fight in Moscow, Russia, according to RingTV. Kovalev’s manager Egis Klimas says they want WBC light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson for that date, but it’s not looking like he’s going to accept that fight.

Kovalev wants to fight Stevenson, Bernard Hopkins, and Beibut Shumenov in order to unify all of the 175 lb. titles. Unfortunately, Kovalev’s chances of getting any of those guys in the ring in 2014 are remote at best. Hopkins is a Showtime fighter, whereas Kovalev fights on HBO.

Bradley and Provodnikov still front runners for Pacquiao’s April fight, says Arum

bradley777 Manny Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum hasn’t changed his mind about his desire to have Pacquiao fight either Tim Bradley or Ruslan Provodnikov in his next fight on April 12th. The only change that Arum has made is he’s stopped mentioning 40-year-old Juan Manuel Marquez as one of three candidates for the fight because of Marquez repeatedly saying that he doesn’t have any interest in ever facing Pacquiao again after having fought him 4 times.

“The two guys that are the front runners are Tim Bradley and Ruslan Provodnikov,” Arum said.

Arum’s not concerned about Pacquiao drawing low numbers in facing these guys, because he sees the disappointing numbers from Pacquiao’s last fight against Brandon Rios being because the fight took place in Macao, China and not in the U.S.

Adrien Broner expects big paydays in the future

broner6767433 While many boxing fans have serious doubts about whether Adrien Broner’s career will ever recover from his loss to Marcos Maidana last December, Broner is still incredibly confident and he sees himself coming back to make $1-10 million+ for his fights in the future. Broner sees himself continuing on the course to become boxing’s next big money fighter after Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao both retire from the game. Broner’s confidence in himself is refreshing, and it would be great for the sport if he an succeed.

In the near future, Broner will need to show that he can beat the top guys at 140-147 if he’s to come back from the Maidana loss and continue in the direction of being boxing’s next cash cow. Broner will need help from Golden Boy Promotions in terms of them matching him against guys that he can beat, and he’s going to need to listen to wise people like Mayweather when it comes to match-making. Mayweather can definitely help Broner by recommending opposition that is better suited towards his style.

pac000 pac000 Floyd Mayweather Sr. thinks Manny Pacquiao has lost his one respected power in the past 4 years since the time he and Floyd Mayweather Jr. were in negotiations for a fight in 2010. Back then, Pacquiao was knocking guys out left and right, and blown out the likes of Miguel Cotto, Oscar De La Hoya and Ricky Hatton.

The knockout wins have dried up for Pacquiao with him failing to register a knockout since 2009, and this hasn’t been unobserved by the elder Mayweather Sr. He feels that Pacquiao has lost the only thing that he had going for him – his power – and without that he would have no chance whatsoever against Floyd Jr.

Sanchez: Khan doesn’t deserve Mayweather fight, but he’s the biggest money bout for him

However, Sanchez thinks that Khan will be the one that gets the fight against Floyd on May 3rd because he gives him the biggest money fight available compared to Maidana or Garcia.

Sanchez sees it ultimately business decision in Mayweather likely going with the better known Khan than the guys that have stayed busy with their careers and accomplished things recently like Maidana and Garcia have.

Team Mayweather hasn’t started negotiations with Maidana

maidana678 WBA welterweight champion Marcos Maidana says that he and his team hasn’t been contacted about a potential unification bout against WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. on May 3rd. While there have been speculation that Mayweather might choose to fight the popular Maidana rather than Amir Khan, it’s not happened as of yet, according to Maidana. He’s clear that he wants the fight with Mayweather, but he’s not going to chase him and push for the fight like some other fighters have done recently.

It’s thought that Mayweather is making a decision about whether to fight Khan or Maidana. Khan was considered to be the guy that was going to get the fight next early on, but Maidana put himself in the forefront with his victory over little Mayweather, Adrien Broner, and that could be the thing that is causing Mayweather and his team to lag on making the decision about his next fight.
