Robert Guerrero still not scheduled to fight after 8 months out of ring

guerrero562 Former three division world champion Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (31-2-1, 18 KO’s) has gone quiet after getting a big payday fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. last year in May. Guerrero worked hard to get the fight with Floyd by constantly calling him out in the media for well over a year, and beating Selcuk Aydin and Andre Berto by 12 round decisions. But since the fight with Mayweather, Guerrero has stayed out of the ring and hasn’t scheduled any fights.

Last month, Guerrero mentioned wanting to fight Manny Pacquiao in an interview with the Philippine Star. Guerrero felt that this was a fight that boxing fans would want to see. But how can Guerrero call out fighters like Pacquiao when he’s not staying active. Just hanging out and calling out a big name after a loss and a layoff is kind of a weak way of getting big fight.

Mayweather exposes Pacquiao fight rumors as false

floyd990 Floyd Mayweather Jr. says that rumors of him supposedly fighting Manny Pacquiao in September or nothing more than a lie. He has no plans in fighting Pacquiao. The rumors have also been dismissed by Pacquiao’s personal adviser Michael Koncz as being false. It would seem that some site jumped the gun and decided to come up with news of the Mayweather-Pacquiao mega fight without fact.

Pacquiao and Mayweather will likely go in different directions career-wise until either Mayweather becomes more open to working with Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank or until Pacquiao leaves Arum and goes with another promoter. I’m not holding my breath waiting for either of those things to happen. Mayweather doesn’t need to change his mind because he’s making good money fighting all the Golden Boy Promotions fighters, and Pacquiao is making a good living fighting Arum’s Top Rank fighters one after another.

Golovkin thinks Khan will give Mayweather problems

khan#3 khan#3 WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin believes that Amir Khan (28-3, 19 KO’s), who has lost 2 out of his last 4 fights, will give Floyd Mayweather Jr. (45-0, 26 KO’s) a lot of problems with his talent, and he feels this is a good fight for business. Golovkin thinks Mayweather will struggle with Khan for some reason, and he’s very interested in seeing this fight. And what’s interesting is that Golovkin thinks the boxing public will want to see Mayweather fight Khan.

“It’s a good fight for everybody,” Golovkin said to Hustleboss “Amir Khan is a good boxer, he has good speed; not an easy fight for Floyd. It’s good [for] business. Yes [it’s a marketable fight]. You know Floyd is No.1 in the world, but Amir Khan has a lot of fans. It’s a good fight for box, for sport, for business.”

Pascal: Kovalev is untested until he beats a champion

kovalev6 Former WBC light heavyweight champion Jean Pascal feels that WBO 175 lb. champion Sergey Kovalev (23-0-1, 21 KO’s) should be seen as an untested fighter until he beats an actual world champion to prove himself. To Pascal, he doesn’t know how good Kovalev is because he’s never been in with an opponent to where he could evaluate his talent level. Right now Pascal sees Kovalev as still having a question mark over his head about how good he is until he faces his first test at light heavyweight.

“On paper, he’s untested,” Pascal said to hustleboss. “Until he’s been tested, we’ll never know his real value. Until he beats a champion or a former champion or a decent champion who has been tested before, I don’ think he’s earned the right to be considered the guy in the division.”

Andre Ward interested in facing Groves next

ward6534 If George Groves (19-1, 15 KO’s) can’t get IBF/WBA super middleweight champion Carl Froch to give him a rematch, WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward (27-0, 14 KO’s) says he’d be interested in giving Groves a chance at winning his belt. Ward liked what he saw of Groves in his loss last month to Froch in Manchester, UK, and he thinks Groves deserves a title shot.

Ward obviously knows that a fight between him and Groves would mean big business in the UK, because Groves is a rising star in the UK. A Ward-Groves fight would likely be pay-per-view in the UK.

Ward said “UK fans still not happy with Carl “The Cobra” Froch huh? That’s why I respect #UK fans, they ride for the home team, but tell the truth!! His fans won’t except anything else.

Victor Ortiz hoping win over Collazo will get him Danny Garcia fight

ortiz34 ortiz34 Former WBC welterweight champion Victor Ortiz (29-4-2, 22 KO’s) is expecting big things if he can get past 32-year-old former WBA World welterweight champion Luis Collazo (34-5, 17 KO’s) next month in their scheduled 10 round fight on January 30th at the Barclays Center, in Brooklyn, New York, USA.

Ortiz is hoping that a victory over Collazo will get him a big fight against Danny Garcia, the WBA/WBC light welterweight champion. That fight, if it takes place, would be held in the 147 lb. division.

WBC gives Vitali Klitschko until December 15th to make decision about fight status

vitali674 Not surprisingly the World Boxing Council has given WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko (45-2, 41 KO’s) another delay, this one until December 15th, to make a decision about whether he’ll choose to defend his WBC crown ever again. The thing is the WBC already gave Vitali a November 30th extension to make a decision about whether he’ll fight again or not, and when that time came, Vitali got another extension.

Vitali must have a lot weighing on him for him not to be able to make a decision and needing multiple delays whether to say if he’ll fight or not. He’s involved in a political career in Ukraine and that could be the reason why he’s unable to make a decision right now whether to carry on or not.

Pacquiao has three good years left, says Roach

roach1 roach1 Trainer Freddie Roach thinks Manny Pacquiao (55-5-2, 38 KO’s) has found the fountain of youth following his incredibly easy win over one of Bob Arum’s Top Rank fighters former WBA lightweight champion Brandon Rios (31-2-1, 23 KO’s) last Saturday night in Macao, China. The win, a one-sided 12 round unanimous decision by Pacquiao, was enough to convince Roach that Pacquiao is as good as he’s ever been and able to fight for three more years before he should hang up the gloves.

Roach said to Boxing Channel “He’s got three good years left.”

There’s a problem when a trainer starts to get ahead of himself for a fighter that is getting up there in age like the 34-year-old Pacquiao. You can’t speculate that he or anyone will be able to fight for the next 3 years because things can change rapidly in the ring from injuries and the negative affects of the ring wear and natural aging.

Vyacheslav Glazkov beats Garrett Wilson

801 801 Vyacheslav Glazkov (16-0, 11 KO’s) defeated the shorter replacement opponent Garrett Wilson (13-7-1, 6 KO’s) by a 10 round unanimous decision that was a little more competitive than the scores suggested on Saturday at the Turning Stone Resort & Casino, in Verona, New York, USA. Wilson, a cruiserweight that was picked out to replace heavyweight Tomasz Adamek, seemed to energize the Verona crowd with huge heart in trying to win against a much bigger fighter than him in Glazkov. The judges scored the fight 97-93, 98-92, 99-91.

The 6’3″ Glazkov looked huge in the ring against the 5’9″ Wilson, and it seemed incredibly strange to have two fighters so different from each other fighting on national television in the U.S. Wilson gave it his all, but it’s too bad that Main Events couldn’t find an actual heavyweight for Glazkov to fight instead of a short cruiserweight.

Should Wladimir Klitschko been disqualified for holding against Povetkin?

wlad793 wlad793 IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (61-3, 51 KO’s) showed very little interest in mixing it up with WBA heavyweight champion Alexander Povetkin (26-1, 18 KO’s) in beating him by a 12 round unanimous decision last Saturday night by the scores 119-104, 119-104 and 119-104 in Moscow, Russia.

For those who thought they were going to see an actual fight it must have been disappointing to the extreme because Wladimir immediately started clinching after every punch in the 1st round of the fight. I lost track of how many times Wladimir opted to clinch Povetkin, but I counted close to 30 after 3 rounds and it was shocking that he been allowed to get away with it by the referee Luis Pabon.

The fight reminded me of the 1976 match between Muhammad Ali and wrestler Antonio Inoki in Tokyo, Japan. It was billed as a boxer vs. wrestler match, but it turned out to be something of a joke with Inoki lying on the canvas kicking at Ali’s legs for 14 long rounds. There wasn’t any wrestling due to the rules and Ali threw only 6 punches in the entire fight. The Klitschko-Povetkin fight reminded me a lot of that bout because there had been a great deal of hype about it, and it was thought that the two fighters would get into some good exchanges.
