froch966 There’s a right way and a wrong way to try and hype a fight, and IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch (30-2, 22 KO’s) showed a prime example of the wrong by talking about possibly killing his opponent WBA super middleweight champion Mikkel Kessler (46-2, 35 KO’s) in their unification fight this Saturday night in London, UK.

Froch said this to Telegraph.co.uk “If I have to I will kill this f***** [Kessler]. I will kill him. It sounds brutal, it sounds horrible, but that is what it means to me…when I smash his face in, I am going for the kill.”

Kessler looking to beat Froch in front of his own fans

WBA super middleweight champion Mikkel Kessler (46-2, 35 KO’s) beat IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch (30-2, 22 KO’s) soundly three years ago in Herning, Denmark in front of Kessler’s Danish fans and a small spatter of Froch’s British fans. This time when Kessler faces Froch on Saturday night at the O2 Arena in London, England, Kessler will be looking to whip Froch in front of a huge crowd of Froch’s British fans.

Kessler wants to show that his win last time wasn’t because he was fighting at home in Denmark. It was because he was the more talented fighter than the upright, easy to hit Froch.

Kessler said “I want to show Carl and all of his boxing fans that I’m better than him.”

Well, if the fight follows the pattern of their last fight, Froch will come out aggressive; taste some of Kessler’s power and back off immediately. Last time, Froch fought in spurts where he would come at Kessler for some exchanges and then back away after Kessler got the better of him. The fight followed this pattern until late in the fight when it clear that Froch was well behind in the fight and needed to sweep the championship rounds in order to have a chance to win.

Bellew plans on overwhelming Chilemba with punches on Saturday

bellew64 #1 WBO light heavyweight contender Tony Bellew (19-1-1, 12 KO’s) will be trying to erase the controversy of his previous fight when he faces #3 WBC Isaac Chilemba (20-1-2, 9 KO’s) in a rematch this Saturday night at the O2 Arena in London, UK.

The fight is buried on the Carl Froch vs. Mikkel Kessler card, and you have to wonder if this was an intentional move by Bellew’s promoter Eddie Hearn in case Bellew gets boxed silly again by Chilemba and it ends up as a huge buzz kill for all the Brits at ringside and watching on television.

Audley Harrison changes his mind about retiring, will fight on

harrison323 British heavyweight Audley Harrison (31-7, 23 KO’s) says he’s changed his mind about retiring from the sport, and he’ll be continuing with his career, such as it is. Audley had said he was retiring after he was blasted out by unbeaten Deontay Wilder (28-0, 28 KO’s) in one round on April 27th in Sheffield. We should have known that Audley wouldn’t stay retired because he seems to be remaking his career after every defeat.

Audley said this to BBC: “I can’t walk away with that performance [against Deontay]. If I do it would haunt me until I’m old and gray. I got up, they should have let him come to finish me and let me show what I got.”

Groves has good idea who’ll win between Froch and Kessler on Saturday

kessler#11 Unbeaten George Groves sparred with both IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch and WBA champion Mikkel Kessler, and he feels knows who’s going to be the clear winner on Saturday night based on his sparring sessions. He won’t say who it’ll be though, but you can guess that Kessler will be the guy that comes out on top in this one.

Groves said to the telegraph.co.uk “I’ve sparred with both. I spared with Carl before his first fight with Kessler in 2010. I suppose I’ve had a better look at both of them than most have, and for me there’s a clear winner, but I can’t really share. It wouldn’t be fair to the lads.”

Magee: Kessler will beat Froch again

Kessler#14 Former WBA super middleweight champion Brian Magee is picking the current WBA 168 lb. champion Mikkel Kessler (46-2, 35 KO’s) to beat IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch (30-2, 22 KO’s) this Saturday night in their pay per view fight at the O2 Arena in London, UK.

Magee has fought both guys in the past, and he feels that Kessler is the far better fighter of the two.

Magee said to Sky Sports News “I think Kessler’s going to outbox him…he knows how to beat him, he has beaten him before and this time he is going to beat him better.”

Fury to Deontay: If you beat Kevin Johnson, I’ll give you a fight

fury1 fury1 Heavyweight contender Tyson Fury (21-0, 15 KO’s) has ignored American heavyweight contender Deontay “Bronze Bomber” Wilder’s attempts to get him in the ring despite it being a fight that would help Fury in a huge way if he won. However, Fury now is saying that he’ll agree to fight Deontay if he beats Kevin “Kingpin” Johnson (29-3-1, 15 KO’s), a guy that Fury easily beat by a 12 round unanimous decision last December.

Fury said on his social media site: “At Bronzebomber [Deontay Wilder], if you can beat Kevin ‘Kingpin’ Johnson, I’ll definitely give you your fight with me!!!! What do you say? I know Kevin will fight.”

I don’t think for a second that Fury, #5 WBO, #6 WBC, #8 IBF, would hold up his end of the bargain if Deontay did take the fight with Johnson and knock him out. Without it being written in a contract, Fury could then just ignore Wilder like before and continue to fight other guys.

Khan: It’s difficult seeing Peterson coming back from his loss to Matthysse

peterson453 (Photo credit: Naoki Fakuda) Amir Khan thinks it’s going to be difficult for IBF light welterweight champion Lamont Peterson to come back from his 3rd round TKO loss to Lucas Matthysse last Saturday night. Peterson was annihilated by Matthysse in a three-knockdown loss at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

As soon as the fight ended, Khan immediately started chirping about how he thinks he can beat Matthysse and it was quite amusing to listen to him considering he just struggled to beat Julio Diaz.

Khan said to Sky Sports News “It’s hard to see Peterson come back from a devastating knockout like that…the 140 division is the most exciting division and it’s made me want to stay in it. I’ve said I’m going to move up to 147, but I’ve not made that move yet. I want to mix it up with these guys.”

Khan wants Matthysse fight; thinks he’s got the style to beat him

matthysse100 (Photo credit: Sumio Yamada) Amir Khan liked what he saw of Lucas Matthysse last night in his easy 3rd round TKO win over Lamont Peterson at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey. However, Khan saw things in Matthysse’s fighting style that he feels would enable him to beat the Argentinian and he says he’d like to fight him.

Khan said “I’d love to fight Lucas Matthysse. My style would definitely suit Matthysse and I’d beat him. This wants me to stay at 140.”

Khan is moving up to 147 in his next fight, so it’s easy for him to say all this stuff now about wanting to fight Matthysse when it doesn’t look like it’s doable.

DeGale: I’ll be world champion by the end of year

degale5 degale5 Super middleweight contender James DeGale (15-1, 10 KO’s) defeated Sebastien Demers (31-6, 11 KO’s) by a 2nd round TKO last night in Quebec, Canada. It wasn’t surprising that DeGale defeated Demers so easily. After all, Demers came into the fight with three straight losses and two of them were early stoppage losses to Renan St. Juste and Brian Vera.

One of the defeats was to Allan Green, a fighter that was taken apart over and over again in the Super Six tournament. What was surprising is DeGale saying he’ll be a world champion by the end of this year.

DeGale said “I will be a world champion by the end of this year.”
