Devon Alexander & Lee Selby Both on October 14th PBC on ESPN Bill

Devon Alexander & Lee Selby Both on October 14th PBC on ESPN Bill

Former two division champ and gay marriage advocate, (only joking!) Devon Alexander (26-3, 14ko), will return to the ring against 2nd tier Mexican Aaron Martinez (19-4-1, 4ko), on an Oct 14th PBC on ESPN bill that is to also feature new IBF featherweight champion Lee Selby (21-1, 8ko) defending against Mexican veteran Fernando Montiel (54-4-2, 39ko).

Alexander will be returning for what is ostensibly a confidence builder, which follows his shutout points loss to Britain’s Amir Khan last December, a fight that was the culmination of a dip in form that started when he was lost his IBF title to pre-fight underdog Shawn Porter almost two years ago.

Tony Bellew/Arturs Kulikauskis Mis-Match Added to Underwhelming Night In Leeds

Tony Bellew/Arturs Kulikauskis Mis-Match Added to Underwhelming Night In Leeds

Aside from the headline fight, that pits the fanatically supported featherweight Josh Warrington against Aussie, Joel Brunker, Matchroom’s Leeds show on Saturday is turning out to be an absolute shocker, with the news today that Liverpool cruiserweight hopeful Tony Bellew (24-2-1, 15ko), will face Latvian journeyman Arturs Kulikauskis (16-26-5, 8ko), a man who has lost 4 of his last 6, and 7 fights in the last 12 months!!! – yes, you did read that correctly.

It is an extremely poor return to form for Eddie Hearn and the heavily criticised domestic mis-match shows of earlier this year, that, in Leeds especially, are reliant only on massive ticket seller Warrington, and his army of football fans, to make the events – often beset with last minute changes – worthwhile.

Shannon Briggs Still Deluded As Ever Over Wladimir Klitschko Title Shot

Shannon Briggs Still Deluded As Ever Over Wladimir Klitschko Title Shot

Long faded heavyweight loudmouth Shannon Briggs (58-6-1, 51ko), currently on a 7 fight win streak against low level opposition, seems to think that if he wins his fight against unheralded club fighter Michael Marrone on Saturday night, then it somehow strengthens his case for a shot at dominant lineal champion Wladimir Klitschko (64-3, 53ko).

Briggs, who was famously brutalized, hospitalized and ‘retired’ by Wladimir’s brother Vitali in 2010, launched something of a meaningless comeback last year, and instead of trying to work himself into position for a shot at any one of Wlad’s WBO/IBF or WBA (sup) titles, seems to think ‘pester power’ and being a professional irritant, is the most viable way to secure himself a shot.

Tim Bradley Splits With Long Time Trainer Joel Diaz

Tim Bradley Splits With Long Time Trainer Joel Diaz

It has been confirmed that WBO welterweight champion Tim Bradley (32-1-1, 12ko) has officially split from long-time trainer Joel Diaz, following on from his recent win over Jessie Vargas in June.

Speaking out to address the many conflicting reports that began emerging last night on social media, “Desert Storm” said of the decision to part ways with the man who guided him from his pro debut 11 years ago, to world titles in 2 divisions, including WBC youth honours;

Brook Fighting Chaves in October as Expected / Crazy Mosley Speculation for December!

Brook Fighting Chaves in October as Expected / Crazy Mosley Speculation for December!

As expected, Britain’s unbeaten IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook, will indeed make the next defence of his title on October 24th in Sheffield, against Argentina’s Diego Chaves, before returning to the ring in December, in what will be his 4th fight, and title defence, of 2015.

Just before Brook appeared live on Sky Sports News in the UK today, to talk about the fight with Chaves, there was some conveniently timed twitter chatter from American veteran Shane Mosley, who stopped the horrendously out-of-shape Ricardo Mayorga last weekend in Los Angeles – his first fight in two years since returning from injury.

Fights With Danny Garcia or Keith Thurman Not Realistic Right Now says Kenny Porter

Fights With Danny Garcia or Keith Thurman Not Realistic Right Now says Kenny Porter

Kenny Porter, father and trainer of former IBF welterweight champion Shawn, says that neither of the much sought after bouts with Florida’s WBA (reg) 147 lb champion Keith Thurman, or Philadephia’s former 140 lb boss, Danny Garcia, are realistic options for his son right now.

Following Shawn’s dominant victory of Adrien Broner in June, fans were looking forward to a potential fight with his friend and divisional rival Thurman, who himself claims he wants a big fight before the end of the year, after an underwhelming clash with Luis Collazo in July.

Martin Murray: I’m Willing to Go to Germany For Arthur Abraham Fight

Martin Murray: I'm Willing to Go to Germany For Arthur Abraham Fight

As long as he gets past durable, but limited Columbian Jose Miguel Torres (31-6, 27ko) in Leeds on Saturday night, as expected, then British 3x world title challenger Martin Murray (31-2-1, is keen on a challenge to current WBO 168 lb champion Arthur Abraham, and is prepared to again go abroad to finally capture the world strap that has so far proven frustratingly elusive.

Murray drew with Felix Sturm in Germany, in his first world title challenge in 2011, and was again considered unlucky 16 months later when he dropped a decision to former middleweight boss Sergio Martinez in the Argentine’s backyard. A third title challenge at 160 to Gennady Golovkin last February, in Monaco, resulted in the Brit taking the big-hitting Kazakh further than anyone prior, before being stopped in 11.

Juergen Braehmer: Wants Kovalev & Stevenson 175 lb Unifications Before Retirement

While he may now be 36 years old, Germany’s WBA (reg) light-heavyweight champion Juergen Braehmer (46-2, 34ko), has stated that if he gets past German-based Montenegran challenger Konni Konrad (22-1-1, 11ko) this weekend, then he wants to seek out a big unification fight with dominant Russian danger man Sergey Kovalev, OR Canadian lineal champion Adonis Stevenson – at least, that’s the word from German promotional heavyweights Sauerland Event, who look after the veteran southpaw.

Relative unknown Konrad – a 30 year old who has never boxed anybody of note – on paper presents a minor obstacle to the former WBO champion, who has often been criticized for holding his titles hostage in Germany without seeking foreign challenges. It seems that now however, in the twilight of his career, that is about to change for the former delinquent, who is at last seeking those big divisional fights.

PBC on CBS - Jamie McDonnell: I Will Make a Statement Against Tomoki Kameda on Sunday

Arguably Britain’s most under-appreciated world champion, Jamie McDonnell (26-2-1, 12ko), fights out in Texas for the second time on Sunday, to again defend his WBA (reg) bantamweight title in a rematch with dangerous Japanese former WBO champion Tomoki Kameda (31-1, 19ko), whom he got off the floor to beat in a cracking little scrap back in May, winning a close UD by scores of 114-113 (x3).

The Doncaster man, out in the Lone Star State with twin brother Gavin, will again be cornered by manager David Coldwell, due to regular trainer Dave Hulley’s fear of flying, but the Brit is confident the slow start that plagued him in the first fight will be a thing of the past, as he seeks to take it to Kameda early and make a proper statement.

WW3: Andy Lee-Billy Joe Saunders Hit by Yet More Bad Luck / Billy Joe Cut in Sparring/ Off Until November

The fabled ‘luck of the Irish’ has hardly been with the Emerald Isle’s WBO middleweight champion Andy Lee – or for that matter, with veteran British promoter Frank Warren, ahead Lee’s much-anticipated clash with Hatfield’s mandatory challenger Billy Joe Saunders – that was due to take place in Manchester, England, on Oct 10th.

The fight has now had to be postponed AGAIN, after already moving back 3 weeks from Limerick, Ireland (Lee’s hometown) – ostensibly due to a ‘virus’ suffered by the champion – and following this second unfortunate drama – a cut sustained by Saunders in sparring -it looks like fans will be waiting until NOVEMBER to see them get it on.

Today’s drama had stemmed from the following tweet from Frank Warren;
