Dirrell conquers Rubio; McDonnell beats Kameda in close fight

(Photo credit: Lucas Noonan/Premier Boxing Champions) CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS (Sept. 6, 2015) – Anthony “The Dog” Dirrell (28-1-1, 22 KOs) scored an impressive unanimous decision over Marco Antonio “El Veneno” Rubio (59-8-1, 51 KOs) Sunday afternoon in the Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) on CBS main event from the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Dirrell proved to be too fast for Rubio as he consistently beat the Mexican veteran to the punch and was able to control the fight. Rubio hung tough throughout the fight, continuing to come forward in his attempts to catch Dirrell.

Scores tallied 117-111 twice and 114-114 in front of a raucous crowd of 13,109 at STAPLES Center in Los Angeles for the Premier Boxing Champions on ESPN main event.

(Photo credit: Ed Diller/DiBella Entertainment) NEWARK, NJ (August 15, 2015) – Heavyweights Antonio “Magic Man” Tarver (31-6, 22 KOs) and Steve “U.S.S.” Cunningham (28-7, 13 KOs) fought to a split decision draw in the main event of tonight’s Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) on Spike at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.

Both Tarver and Cunningham fought at a consistent pace throughout the bout, exchanging punches evenly in the early rounds. Tarver caught Cunningham in the fourth round with a sneaky right cross that wobbled the younger fighter who quickly regained his composure and finished out the round. The back and forth action, which left Cunningham bruised and swollen around the eyes, lead to the draw with judges scores of 115-113 Cunningham, 115-114 Tarver and 114-114.

(Photo credit: Lucas Noonan/Premier Boxing Champions) BROOKLYN (August 2, 2015) – Danny “Swift” Garcia (31-0, 18 KOs) kept his perfect record intact Saturday with a ninth-round TKO of two-time world champion Paulie “The Magic Man” Malignaggi (33-7, 7 KOs) on Premier Boxing Champions on ESPN from Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

Garcia was able to control the fight with lead rights and counter left hooks that kept the agile Malignaggi from landing anything significant. The punishment took its toll on Malignaggi as a cut opened up on his right eye in the third round.
