Canelo brags about how his sparring partners can’t keep up

canelo444 It was kind of sad to see WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (42-0-1, 30 KO’s) reduced to bragging about dominating unknown sparring partners on SHOWTIME’S ALL ACCESS Mayweather vs. Canelo. Instead of realizing that he’s sparring guys that are not even remotely as good as Maywether, Canelo chose to pat himself on the back by pointing out that some of his sparring partners are unable to handle the punishment they’re taking in training camp with him.

Canelo said “It’s the word. It’s the work. It’s the way that we train. They can’t keep up. They can’t keep up with the work. They get hurt, and that’s why they leave.”

Reynoso thinks Canelo’s hand speed will give Mayweather problems

AlvarezWorkout4Mayweather_Hoganphotos2 (Hogan Photos) WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (42-0-1, 30 KO’s) isn’t really known for having super-fast hands. Instead of having quick hands, Canelo is more known for being big for the junior middleweight division, his good power, and for his counter punching.

For this season it seems a little peculiar that Canelo’s trainer Chepo Reynoso is pointing towards Canelo’s hand speed as being a huge factor for him beating Floyd Mayweather Jr. (44-0, 26 KO’s) next month on September 14th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Reynoso said to RingTV “Mayweather is expecting the bull, but he’s not going to see him…when Mayweather gets in against Canelo it’s going to show that he’s also got speed, Canelo is going to be a ghost to him.”

WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (42-0-1, 30 KO’s) was supposed to becoming to September 14th fight Floyd Mayweather Jr. (44-0, 26 KO’s) a lot lighter than he did in his previous fight against Austin Trout where Canelo weighed in at 172 lbs. the night of the fight, but it doesn’t look like that’s going to happen judging by the mandatory 30-day weigh-in held on Wednesday.

Broner targeting Maidana and Matthysse

broner55 It’s been thought that WBA welterweight champion Adrien Broner (27-0, 22 KO’s) will give up his newly won World Boxing Association 147 lb. title without defending it rather than facing the likes of Marcos Maidana and Keith Thurman. Broner, however, is now saying he wants to fight Maidana and then Lucas Matthysse after that. There’s no word from Broner about whether he’ll bother defending his title against WBA interim welterweight champion Keith Thurman, who has already said he wants to fight Broner next.

Broner said this about Maidana and Matthysse on Thursday on his social media site: You a damn fool if you think Chino Maidana can beat me. LOL! And when I’m done with this b**ch Chino Maidana, I’m go f*** Matthysse up. Easy money.”

I like how Broner throws in one of Floyd Mayweather Jr’s “easy money” comments, because that’s something that Mayweather Jr. says all the time.

If Broner is serious about wanting to face Maidana and Matthysse in back to back fights, he may not be the WBA champion for long.

Andre Berto: I think I tore my right shoulder out of the socket

berto001 Andre Berto (28-3, 22 KO’s) complains that he may have torn his right shoulder out of the socket early in his fight against Jesus Soto Karass (28-8-3, 18 KO’s) last night at the AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas. Berto was knocked out in the 12th round after getting hit with a left hook at the same time he was throwing a punch of his own.

The shot deposited Berto on the canvas. He was able to get up by referee Jon Schorle stopped it immediately at 0:48 of the round. Berto didn’t like the quick stoppage and felt that he should have been given standing 8 count rather than having the fight halted without him having the chance to collect himself.

The fight was a draw at the time of the stoppage with one judge scoring it 105-103 for Berto, another 105-103 for Soto Karass and the third judge scoring it 114-114 even.

Brandon Rios towers over Pacquiao in face-off in Macao

pac90 pac90 Manny Pacquiao (54-5-2, 38 KO’s) could be facing the equivalent of a better version of Antonio Margarito when he steps inside the ring against Brandon Rios (31-1-1, 23 KO’s) on November 23rd at the Cotai Arena, Venetian Resort, Macao, Macao S.A.R., China.

The two fighters met today in Macao, China in their media tour in China to start publicizing their November 23rd pay per view fight. When the two fighters stood face to face, you could see immediately the size difference between them.

Rios, 5’8”, not only looks a lot taller than the 5’6 ½” Pacquiao, but he also looks a lot heavier as well. Pacquiao could be dealing with a younger, more active version of a Margarito-like fighter. This is coming at a wrong time for the soon to be 35-year-old Pacquiao, because he took a lot of punishment against Margarito, but he did it when he was three years younger. Now nearing 35, it’s not good timing for Pacquiao to be facing this kind of puncher in Rios.

roach1 roach1 Freddie Roach thinks he’s got the perfect airtight strategy for his fighter Manny Pacquiao (54-5-2, 38 KO’s) to end his two-fight losing streak and beat former WBA lightweight champion Brandon Rios (31-1-1, 23 KO’s) on November 23rd at the Cotai Arena, Venetian Resort, Macao, Macao S.A.R., China.

Roach isn’t saying what this so-called perfect strategy is, but you can imagine it’ll be something similar to what Mike Alvarado used to defeat Rios by a 12 round unanimous decision last March in their rematch in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Floyd: I’ll fight Pacquiao if he signs with Mayweather Promotions

pac3 pac3 Floyd Mayweather Jr. is no longer setting a condition that Manny Pacquiao turn his career around before he’ll fight him. That was what Mayweather Jr. had previously asked for Pacquiao to do before he’d agree to fight, given that Pacquiao has lost his last two fights.

Mayweather Jr. now wants Pacquiao to sign with Mayweather Promotions before he’ll agree to fight him. Pacquiao currently is signed with Top Rank though 2014.

Mayweather Jr. said to Yahoo Sports “I’m just letting you know that he’s not getting a fight with me. The only way he’s getting a fight with me is if he signs with Mayweather Promotions. He’s got to give me fights with Mayweather Promotions. If he don’t give me no fights under Mayweather Promotions, then he’s not getting the fight. That’s how it’s working now.”

Schaefer thinks Mayweather-Canelo will break PPV record

can44343312351312 Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer sees the September 14th Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Saul “Canelo” Alvarez fight card as having a great shot at beating the 6-year old PPV mark of 2.4 million buys set by Mayweather himself against the original “Golden Boy” Oscar De La Hoya in 2007 near the end of Oscar’s career.

Shaefer took a step in the right direction to break the PPV record with the addition of Lucas Matthysse vs. Danny Garcia to the fight card earlier today. That’s going to help but I’m not sure if it’s going to help enough.
