De La Hoya: Mayweather will stand in the pocket against Canelo and he’ll be vulnerable

mayweather92 Oscar De La Hoya of Golden Boy Promotions feels he knows how WBA junior middleweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. (44-0, 26 KO’s) is going to face his fighter WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (42-0-1, 30 KO’s) on September 14th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

De La Hoya has it worked out in his head that Mayweather is going to stand and trade with the young, and much, much heavier Canelo like he did in his fight with Miguel Cotto last year in May. De La Hoya thinks this is going to leave the 36-year-old Mayweather vulnerable to Canelo’s heavy shots.

Mayweather-Canelo is a 50-50 fight, says Morales

floyd#31 Former four division world champion Erik Morales says he sees the Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Saul “Canelo” Alvarez fight as a toss-up for September 14th. Morales thinks it could either way due to Mayweather fighting a younger guy in the 22-year-old Canelo, who Morales feels showed a lot of improvement recently.

Morales said to oem.com.mx “I see the fight 50-50 possibilities for each. To me, the fight comes down to conditions such as age, experience, youth, desire…this fight is very even for me.”

A lot of people feel that Canelo’s weight advantage could be the factor in him getting a victory in this fight. He weighed 172 for his last fight and has been fighting in the mid-160s in his other fights at 154.

Beristain likes Canelo’s chances of beating Mayweather

Beristain told deportes.univision.com “I want Canelo to win. It would be a historic achievement for the Mexican boxing world. I hope the result is good for Canelo. He has a good chance because he throws nice combinations and he avoids punches. He’s looking more solid and he’s definitely the new Mexican boxing idol.”

Mayweather vs. Canelo without rehydration limit

alvarez5654 Floyd Mayweather Jr. (44-0, 26 KO’s) gave his much heavier opponent Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (42-0-1, 30 KO’s) a real gift by not pushing for a rehydration limit for their catch-weight fight at 152 pounds on September 14th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

This means that both fighters can rehydrate as much as they want after making the 152 lb. limit. That doesn’t mean much for Mayweather because he’ll likely come into the fight weighing around 146. But for Canelo, not having a rehydration limit will free him up to rehydrate to the 170s.

floyd#705 Floyd Mayweather Jr. just revealed that he’ll be facing Mexican star Saul “Canelo” Alvarez on September 14th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. The fight will take place at a catch-weight of 152 lbs, according to Dan Rafael of ESPN. That still gives Canelo a big advantage because he only has to go two pounds lower than the normal 154 weight limit. If Mayweather had asked for a catch-weight at 150, then it would be a lot tougher on Canelo because he’s so huge for the junior middleweight class in terms of weight.

Mayweather said this on his social media site just now: “I chose my opponent for September 14th and it’s Canelo Alvarez. I’m giving fans what they want. It will be at the MGM Grand.”

With the Chinese population at 1.34 billion, Pacquiao stands to make a lot of money if even a fraction of the population purchases his fight.

In addition to that, Pacquiao will be making a massive amount of money from the U.S fans from the PPV money, and it won’t be taxed at the high rate that it would have been had the fight taken place in the United States. Arum came up with the great idea for Pacquiao to fight in Macau, China to ease the tax burden on Pacquiao, so he’ll have even more money.

Froch wants third fight with Kessler next, a tie-breaker

froch301 Having beaten WBA super middleweight champion Mikkel Kessler (46-3, 35 KO’s) by a 12 round unanimous decision tonight to take his WBA 168 lb., the victorious IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch (31-2, 22 KO’s) is kicking around the idea of fighting Kessler again in what would be a tie breaker.

Both fighters have one victory a piece in their two fights together, and a third bout between them would be one that would prove without a doubt who the better fighter is.

Froch said after the fight: “It’s one [victory] a piece. Who knows? You [Kessler] fancy a third one?”

Froch beats Kessler, avenges his previous loss

froch300 IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch (31-2, 22 KO’s) avenged his earlier defeat to WBA super middleweight champion Mikkel Kessler (46-3, 35 KO’s) by beating him by a 12 round unanimous decision tonight in front of a packed O2 Arena in London, England. Both fighters ended getting hurt with big shots before the fight was done, but in the end Froch did enough to win a 12 round unanimous decision.

After the fight Froch said “He was there to hurt me on a couple of occasions he did hurt me, but I hit him with the bigger shots and I was close to the knockout in the end. I’m really, really happy. I just kept at range with the jab all night long.”

cotto8 cotto8 Golden Boy Promotions is setting aside the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York on September 28th for a possible Miguel Cotto fight, according to Steve Kim. This is potentially bad news for WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez because Cotto is the backup plan for him if Golden Boy can’t negotiate a fight between him and Floyd Mayweather Jr. for September 14th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

If Golden Boy strikes out with Mayweather, then they won’t eve have Cotto for Canelo. With Mayweather and Cotto out for Canelo, he’d then likely be matched up with the Golden Boy promoted Alfredo Angulo or Erislandy Lara.

De La Hoya said this as quoted by holylosangeles.com “I know Mayweather wants the fight, and he’ll take the fight. Many say that Mayweather is not the same fighter, but we saw that he still is against [Robert] Guerrero, but Canelo is not Guerrero. Nobody is invincible. No fighter retires undefeated…even the best in the world has to lose.”
