Khan trying to work a deal to fight Broner on Mayweather’s undercard

Having been turned down by Floyd Mayweather Jr. for a fight on May 3rd, Amir Khan is now trying to work a deal to fight former three division world champion Adrien Broner on Mayweather’s undercard in exchange for Mayweather agreeing to fight him. So in other words, Khan will do Mayweather a big favor by helping make his May 3rd Showtime pay-per-view card a successful one by agreeing to fight Broner in exchange for Mayweather signing him up for his next fight after that.

Chavez Jr. decisions Vera II; Salido beats Lomachenko

Using his considerable size and power advantage, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (48-1-1, 32 KO’s) pounded out a hard-earned 12 round unanimous decision tonight over Brian Vera (23-8, 14 KO’s) at the Alamodome, in San Antonio, Texas, USA. Chavez Jr. hit Vera with some shots that would have likely knocked out 90% of the super middleweights in the division, but Vera showed an incredible chin and great heart in taking the shots.

Just by hanging around, Vera was able to punish Chavez Jr. with less powerful shots and he had his face looking like he was the loser tonight instead of the winner.

The final judges scores were 114-113, 117-110, 117-110. There’s no question that Chavez Jr. deserved the decision this time around, but it’s too bad that he was given what many boxing fans saw as a gift decision over Vera last September in their previous fight. But Vera got a rematch out of that fight anyway, so it worked out about the same as him getting a win.

It’s official! Mayweather vs. Maidana on May 3rd on Showtime PPV

Floyd Mayweather Jr. (45-0, 26 KO’s) did what everyone expected him to do today in selecting WBA welterweight champion Marcos Maidana (35-3, 31 KO’s) for his next fight on May 3rd on Showtime PPV instead of Amir Khan, who fans seemed to have little interested in seeing Mayweather fight next. In selecting Maidana, Mayweather opted to turn his back to his own poll on the mayweatherpromotions.com website, which saw Khan as the winner.

Amir Khan is starting to sound increasingly unhappy with Floyd Mayweather Jr. judging by his comments in interviews and on his twitter account. With each day that goes by, it seems more and more likely that Mayweather won’t be giving Khan a fight on May 3rd and that seems to be getting to the British fighter. Khan thought he had the fight with Mayweather after winning his poll competition against Marcos Maidana. Mayweather, however, appears to have other ideas for his May 3rd fight instead of Khan. A lot of Boxing fans think Khan is desperate for a retirement fight against Mayweather.

In an interview today, Khan took the opportunity to lash out at Mayweather, saying that he’s slower than he used to be, and that he’s fighting slow opponents because he’s slowed down with his ability to get around the ring.

Top Rank promoter Bob Arum is all bent out of shape with the way that Floyd Mayweather Jr. has treated Britain’s Amir Khan by not naming him as his next opponent for May 3rd, and having him compete for the fight with Marcos Maidana on his website poll at Mayweatherpromotions.com.

Khan won the poll, but Mayweather still hasn’t named him as his next opponent yet. Arum says he would never do that with his fighters in his stable, and he thinks that Khan should “cut his ties with them.” Arum thinks Mayweather has decided to fight Maidana instead of Khan.

Alfredo Angulo (22-3, 18 KO’s) is getting the 23-year-old Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (42-1-1, 30 KO’s) at exact the fight point in time to pull out an upset on March 8th when the two fighters go at it on Showtime pay-per-view at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Canelo was badly schooled in his last fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. last September in losing a 12 round decision, and Canelo looked like he didn’t have a clue in how to go about fighting Mayweather.

Canelo had talked for weeks leading up to the fight that he had the perfect game plan to beat Mayweather, and enough fans took the red-haired Canelo for his word to purchase the fight on PPV. But instead of having a game plan, Canelo tried to box Mayweather for most of the fight, and he ended up looking silly. By the time Canelo changed his tactics in the 9th round, he was too far behind to win and he ended up getting clowned.

Maidana smashed Khan in three independent polls – ESPN, Fightnews and RingTV – in winning by wide margins where fans weren’t required to log in with a Facebook or Twitter account in order to vote.

British heavyweight Dereck Chisora (20-4, 13 KO’s) literally got away with murder tonight in throwing punches to the back of the head of his opponent Kevin Johnson (29-5-1, 14 KO’s) for 12 rounds in beating him by a 12 round unanimous decision at the Copper Box Arena in London. UK. It’s been years since I’ve seen a fighter throw as many rabbit punches as I saw Chisora throw tonight. It was constant and painful looking.

I thought I was watching Chuck Wepner vs. Muhammad Ali tonight, because Chisora was nailing Johnson in the back of the head round after round without the referee Terry O’Connor lifting a finger to stop Chisora from doing it. He chose to ignore the fouling from Chisora, and the fight came down to Johnson having to put up with it and take the shots as best as he could.

Khan showing signs of desperation for Mayweather fight

It’s been four days since Amir Khan officially won the poll on Floyd Mayweather Jr’s website that supposedly gives the 27-year-old Khan the fight with the star fighter on May 3rd at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Mayweather’s silence on the issue seems to be affecting Khan judging by his recent tweets, because Khan is starting to show signs of worry with his comments. The above comment seems to be a situation where Khan is showing as much respect as possible to Mayweather. I just hope Khan doesn’t resort to referring to Mayweather as “your highness” or “your excellency.”
