Adrien Broner-Ricky Burns likely for February, Broner looking to have another fight first

Adrien Broner-Ricky Burns likely for February, Broner looking to have another fight first

It’s looking as though Ricky Burns and Adrien Broner will finally meet – in a fight that has been talked about for a few years – next February. Burns, the WBA 140-pound champ, is looking at making big money in his first title defence and the Scottish warrior’s manager Alex Morrison told STV that the Broner fight is “99 percent certain, in Las Vegas.”

Burns, 41-5-1(14) had a war with Keryl Relikh earlier this month, with Broner watching the battle won by the Scot, and soon Broner will get a chance to regain the belt Burns now holds. But first, “The Problem” wants to have a fight in December; itching to fight as he is after having spent time in jail and having been largely inactive this year.

Broner-Burns showdown could take place in Vegas, but Burns has to get past Kiryl Relikh first

Broner-Burns showdown could take place in Vegas, but Burns has to get past Kiryl Relikh first

WBA 140-pound champ Ricky Burns, who has already enjoyed a quite amazing career, has even more incentive to successfully defend his belt against dangerous puncher Kiryl Relikh on October 7. Scottish hero Burns, who rejuvenated his career by winning the WBA light-welterweight title earlier this year, becoming a three-weight champion, could fight American bad boy Adrien Broner in December of this year if he comes through next month against the Ricky Hatton-guided Relikh.

Speaking with STV News, Burns, 40-5-1(14) said talks between his team and Broner’s team have been ongoing and that a fight out in Las Vegas would be something he’d really like. Burns insists, however, he is not underestimating the unbeaten Relikh, 21-0(19)

Adrien Broner feeling mean, says anyone he gets in the ring with he’s going to “do damage to”

Adrien Broner feeling mean, says anyone he gets in the ring with he’s going to “do damage to”

Former four-weight titlist Adrien Broner, who recently spent 30-days in his own company and pretty much nobody else’s as he served time in jail for contempt of court, is feeling pretty mean right now. Having been released just days ago, “The Problem” is already thinking about fighting again. And AB said to ES News that he is aiming high; he still wants Manny Pacquiao and he says that if he ever does face Pac-Man, he will “f**k him up.”

Broner seems desperate to fight and he warned whoever his next opponent might be how he aims to “do damage.”

Adrien Broner released from jail, possibility he may fight in October

Adrien Broner released from jail, possibility he may fight in October

Former champ Adrien Broner was today released from prison having served his 30-day sentence, the one he got for turning up in court either drunk or hung-over; his trial for alleged assault and robbery set to begin. Now a free man again (for now, at least) “The Problem” is of course expected to do what he does best aside from get into trouble – fight. Broner remains a big name, a fighter who can attract fans with his bad guy, or man you love to hate image, and there could be big fights out there for him still.

RingTV.com spoke briefly with Broner’s trainer Mike Stafford, and he said that while it’s obviously way too early to have anything approaching set yet, there is a chance the four-weight titlist could box as soon as October – against a “Ricky Burns type” of opponent. This doesn’t mean it will be Burns next for Broner, but the Scottish hero, who recently rejuvenated his own career by winning another major belt, was supposed to fight Broner a while back and this fight still has a decent look to it. Burns enjoyed boxing in the U.S when he gave Omar Figueroa a great battle in Texas last May, and he would possibly look at returning to America to finally get it on with Broner.

Adrien Broner just cannot stay out of trouble – jailed for 30 days for contempt of court

Adrien Broner just cannot stay out of trouble - jailed for 30 days for contempt of court

Adrien Broner is in more legal trouble. The 26-year-old four-weight titlist was today given a 30 day jail term for contempt of court after he turned up three hours late to face charges over his assault case of January. Broner, according to reports, was either drunk or hungover. The judge had no sympathy for him and ordered how the former champ be detained for a month before finally standing trial for the charges relating to the incident that took place outside a bowling alley in January.

Broner, once looked at as a major talent who had the potential to be great, really has become a love-to-hate figure. Broner was dazzling down at 130 and 135-pounds, winning major belts there, before moving up to 140 and 147 where he was beaten by Marcos Maidana and Shawn Porter respectively. Now, with this latest stint in jail, along with a potential return to jail when he faces charges for the January incident, Broner’s career appears to be in tatters. And the sad thing is, not too many people will really care all that much.

Broner sent to jail for ten days for parole violation

Broner sent to jail for ten days for parole violation

Adrien Broner seems destined as of late to make more headlines due to his out of the ring actions than those inside the four corners. Broner currently sits in a Cincinnati jailhouse due to how he was arrested this week for parole violation. Broner – who was recently in court to face assault and theft charges – violated the terms of his parole for a previous crime, that of a reckless driving conviction. Broner will not be released until April 22nd, his sentence being ten days.

Broner, nicknamed “The Problem,” has recently had far more problems than the majority of his boxing opposition; although he did stop his last foe, Ashley Theophane (in a fight where the winner was stripped of his WBA light-welterweight title before the bout got underway due to failing to make weight) on April 1st.

Broner manages to paint himself as victim

Broner manages to paint himself as victim

Adrien “Problem” Broner (32-2, 24KO) stopped Ashley Theophane 39-7-1, 11KO) in nine at the D.C. Armory, Wash D.C. No big deal. Everyone expected him to win. It just took a little longer than he predicted. The real story was the current episode of the Problem Child’s soap opera life. Just as television series often do, fans (audiences) were initially left hanging.

Fans wondered about several “what ifs”. What if the Problem gets arrested and incarcerated due to criminal proceedings in Cincinnati, Ohio? Will the Wash. D. C. commission deny Broner a license? If so, will the entire card be scratched? Speaking of scratched, that’s what officials were contemplating when the Problem refused to take off another 4oz to make the junior welterweight limit of 140.
