Trainer Rick Morones Jr: “Adrien Broner will KO Marcos Maidana”

broner 075Every great trainer throughout boxing’s storied history has insisted that fights are won and lost in the gym. If the age old adage is indeed true, former IBF Junior Welterweight Champion Marcos Maidana could be in serious trouble this weekend.

Throughout the entire week leading up to the eventual “gun fight” with the hard punching Argentine, three division world champion and current WBA Welterweight title holder Adrien “The Problem” Broner has been finalizing head trainer Mike Stafford’s game plan at the Team Morones Boxing Club in San Antonio, Texas.

Talented, young gym owner and trainer Rick Morones Jr. has been thoroughly impressed with what he’s seen from the Cincinnati, Ohio native during the days leading into the highly anticipated showdown.

“Adrien Broner is a beast,” claims the 28 year old boxing mentor.

Maidana looking to give Broner the toughest fight of his life

YouTube video
LONDON (Dec. 11) – Big-hitting Marcos Maidana is determined to knockout the brash talking Adrien Broner when the pair meet in the ring this weekend live on BoxNation.

The Argentine assassin, who is famed for his ferocious knockout power having put 31 of his 37 opponents to sleep, is extremely confident he can add the name of Broner to that list on Saturday night.

Despite being regarded as the heir apparent to Floyd Mayweather’s throne, Maidana is in no doubt that Broner is a false pretender to that title and has been keen to show him why, ever since both men locked horns during the Shawn Porter and Julio Diaz card in September.

Adrien Broner and Marcos Maidana Interview Transcript

BronerMaidanaPrePC_Hoganphotos4Marcos, if you could maybe make a quick opening statement before I’m going to introduce Adrien?

Marcos Maidana

I’m excited to be on this great boxing card the next 14th of December in San Antonio. I’m in the last stage of my preparation, which has been great; and once again, I’m convinced that Adrien Broner has never fought a rival like me, so it will not be easy for him.

R. Schaefer

Thank you. Now, the man I’m going to introduce, he talks the talk. Some of them don’t like him because of it, but you know what? He’s one of those guys who not only talks the talk, but he walks the walk. He is, without question, quickly becoming one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world. He has a record of 27-0, with 22 knockouts. He is already a three division world champion.

At 130 pounds in 2011, he won the WBO World Title against Vicente Rodriguez in three rounds, by the way. In 2012, he defended the WBA with fourth round TKO over then undefeated Eloy Perez and then against Vicente Escobedo in July.

Broner-Maidana Undercard Media Conference Call Transcript

thurman444Kelly Swanson – – Thanks, everybody, for calling in. We really appreciate it. This call is to talk about this fantastic undercard, the undercard for the Adrien Broner and Marcos Maidana fight, which is December 14 from the Alamodome in San Antonio.

We’re going to start off today with Cesar Seda and Leo Santa Cruz, and then immediately following their comments and your questions for them, we will turn it over to Keith Thurman and Jesus Soto Karass. To get this call going, I’m going to introduce Richard Schaefer, Chief Executive Officer of Golden Boy Promotions.

Richard Schaefer – Thank you, Kelly. Before I get started to talk to about this sensational card, I just want to make another quick comment. There were some great fights this weekend. We had pound-for-pound great Andre Ward looking quite spectacular in defending his world title, but there was another fight which really stole the weekend. We had Kelly Swanson look more than spectacular in her first victory.

Adrien “The Problem” Broner: “I want to apologize to everybody out there”

Adrien BronerWhile promoting his December 14th, Welterweight title defense against hard punching Argentine Marcos “El Chino” Maidana in San Antonio, Texas, Adrien “The Problem” Broner spent some time apologizing to his die-hard supporters and detractors alike for a shocking “ménage a trois” video that was leaked online earlier this week.

Video interview attached:

“It is what it is,” stated the 24 year old fighter. “I want to apologize to everybody out there. I didn’t leak it, but I just want to apologize.”

While the “X Rated” video has been the topic “du jour” on many internet fan sites, most die-hard boxing fans are much more anxious to hear how the undefeated pugilist plans to deal with a heavy handed and resilient fighter like the former IBF Junior Welterweight title holder.

BronerMaidanaPrePC_Hoganphotos5SAN ANTONIO (Oct. 31, 2013) – WBA Welterweight Champion Adrien “The Problem” Broner and former WBA Junior Welterweight Champion Marcos “El Chino” Maidana are no strangers to facing the most feared competitors in the sport of boxing. Rios picks Maidana to beat Broner

maidana32434Brandon Rios is picking #2 WBA to defeat WBA welterweight champion Adrien Broner (27-0, 22 KO’s) in their pay-per-view fight on Showtime on December 14th at the MGM Grand, Grand Garden Arena, in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. Rios thinks that Broner isn’t unhittable like Floyd Mayweather Jr., and he likes the power that Maidana has after sparring 10 rounds with him. Rios says the sparring with Maidana was pretty brutal.

Rios told esnewsreporting.com “I think it’s going to be a tough fight, but I think he [Maidana] can pull it off. Broner showed [against Paulie Malignaggi] that he can be hit. He’s not like Mayweather. When Maidana cracks, he cracks hard.”

Left-Hook Lounge: Mayweather/Pacquiao Demands, Khan/Alexander Riff, & Adrien Broner!!!

mayweather2256Byron M. (Tacoma, WA): Please tell me that Mayweather is joking about Pacquiao having to sign with Mayweather Promotions in order to secure a fight with him in the future! What is that about?

Vivek W. (ESB): I think the comments as printed were blown out of context. I’d be the first to say that Mayweather absolutely meant what he said. But the actual purpose behind the statement was never defined through the media source that initially reported, which made it appear that Mayweather was just doing what some feel Mayweather always does (talk). There appears to be a major disconnect relative to what he meant by this statement, so I think it can only help to add clarity.

In a nutshell, what it all comes down to is the fact that Mayweather, without question stands as the bigger draw. Once upon a time there may have been a debate. But right now, unequivocally, there are no questions. Without needing to elaborate much further, ask yourself this: why would Floyd – (who clearly feels he should get the lions share of the entire promotion) – take the bigger portion of the fight purse, yet concede the lions share of the promotional element of the purse (which isn’t small)?

Broner targeting Maidana and Matthysse

broner55It’s been thought that WBA welterweight champion Adrien Broner (27-0, 22 KO’s) will give up his newly won World Boxing Association 147 lb. title without defending it rather than facing the likes of Marcos Maidana and Keith Thurman. Broner, however, is now saying he wants to fight Maidana and then Lucas Matthysse after that. There’s no word from Broner about whether he’ll bother defending his title against WBA interim welterweight champion Keith Thurman, who has already said he wants to fight Broner next.

Broner said this about Maidana and Matthysse on Thursday on his social media site: You a damn fool if you think Chino Maidana can beat me. LOL! And when I’m done with this b**ch Chino Maidana, I’m go f*** Matthysse up. Easy money.”

I like how Broner throws in one of Floyd Mayweather Jr’s “easy money” comments, because that’s something that Mayweather Jr. says all the time.

If Broner is serious about wanting to face Maidana and Matthysse in back to back fights, he may not be the WBA champion for long.
