Khan adds Marquez and Bradley to his list of names he wants to fight

Amir Khan says that besides Floyd Mayweather Jr and Manny Pacquiao, he’d like to add Tim Bradley and Juan Manuel Marquez to the list of guys he wants to face in the near future. Khan has been after a fight against Mayweather for ages now, but he’s not been fighting the preliminary guys that would get him the Mayweather fight unfortunately.

Instead of fighting big punchers like Kell Brook, Keith Thurman and Shawn Porter, Khan has been fighting the likes of Carlos Molina, Julio Diaz, Luis Collazo and Devon Alexander. This has led to Khan not picking up the name recognition in the United States that he needs for him to lure the likes of Mayweather to fight him.

Khan rules out Kell Brook fight

Khan rules out Kell Brook fight

One fight that boxing fans likely won’t be seeing in 2015 is a clash between two of the top British fighters at 147. Amir Khan doesn’t have a world title belt in his possession, but he’s sure acting like he has one.

Khan says he won’t be fighting the highly popular and big punching IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook because he feels that he’s not shown him the type of respect that he wants. If that wasn’t enough of a reason for Khan, he also added that Brook isn’t on the same level as him.

Mayweather Sr: Khan fights like a washer woman

Mayweather Sr: Khan fights like a washer woman

Trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr says he wasn’t impressed with what he saw from Amir Khan in his recent 12 round decision win over Devon Alexander last Saturday night. Floyd Sr says that Khan fought like a woman due to the way he would flail with his arms when coming forward to throw his combinations.

To Floyd Sr, Khan looked like a wild woman, and he saw it as a very undisciplined manner to be fighting. With that said, Floyd Sr still thinks that Khan would present more of a problem for his son Floyd Mayweather Jr than someone like Manny Pacquiao. Floyd Sr thinks that Khan’s high work rate would be more difficult than Pacquiao’s one punch at a time style of landing punches.

Khan: If Mayweather wants to be a global star, he has to fight me

Amir Khan bristled at the recent news that Floyd Mayweather Jr said that he’s not worth fighting because his name doesn’t hold value in the United States because the casual boxing fans have no clue who Khan is. Khan feels that he’s more popular than two of Mayweather’s past opponents Victor Ortiz and Robert Guerrero. Khan also says that he’s got a large following in India and Pakistan, and if Mayweather wants to be a global star then he needs to fight him.

I’m not sure that Mayweather cares if Khan has tons of fans in India and Pakistan though, because Mayweather is mainly looking for opponents that are big stars in the United States. That’s where the pay-per-view buys will be coming from, not India or Pakistan.

Khan wants Mayweather and Pacquiao in 2015

Khan wants Mayweather and Pacquiao in 2015

Amir Khan isn’t satisfied with possibly getting a fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr in 2015. If that fight happens, Khan says he then hopes to fight Manny Pacquiao at the end of the year. If Khan gets his wish, he’ll have faced the two biggest stars in the sport of boxing in one year.

Khan is one of the candidates for Mayweather’s next fight in early 2015.

Mayweather recently said that he’s not interested in facing Khan, because the fight he wants is against Pacquiao on May 2nd. However, Mayweather may have no other choice but to fight Khan if he can’t get a fight against Pacquiao in the first part of the year.

Mayweather rules out Khan fight, wants Pacquiao instead

Amir Khan got a bit of bad news today with Floyd Mayweather Jr revealing that he has zero interest in fighting the British fighter due to him seeing Khan as a guy that casual boxing fans in the United States have no clue about. Mayweather says Khan is someone that only the boxing community knows about, and he’s not interested in facing a guy that the casual fans aren’t aware of.

Instead, Mayweather says his main focus is on fighting Manny Pacquiao on May 2nd next year when he plans on fighting again. However, Mayweather isn’t sure if that fight can be made due to Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum recently coming out and saying that he doesn’t want Pacquiao to fight Mayweather on May 2nd because that’s a Mexican holiday date.

Khan defeats Alexander; Thurman unimpressive against Bundu

Khan defeats Alexander; Thurman unimpressive against Bundu

Amir Khan won a convincing 12-round unanimous decision victory over Devon Alexander in a matchup of two of the fastest welterweights in the world on Saturday in the main event of SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING® from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

The impressive victory was nearly a shutout, with Khan winning 119-109, 118-110 and 120-108 to remain undefeated at 147 pounds and extend his winning streak against southpaws to seven.

In just his second fight at welterweight pounds, Khan was the supremely accurate boxer. The former unified super lightweight world champion landed 54 percent of his power punches to Alexander’s 32 percent and 43 percent of his total shots versus Alexander’s 20 percent. But it was Khan’s hand speed and combinations that were too much for Alexander, who couldn’t get inside against and take any chances against the Brit.

Khan vs. Alexander: East meets West at the crossroads

Khan vs. Alexander: East meets West at the crossroads

Contender crossroads is the theme heading into Saturday nights Showtime main event from the MGM Grand in the city that never sleeps Las Vegas. If Amir wins he will be in line for a huge fight. If Devon wins he saves a once promising career.

For the last two years the only thing that Amir Kahn talks about in interviews is Floyd Mayweather. That and how he’s made significant improvements to his tool belt as a boxer. If Amir Khan can be 75% as good as he thinks he is major fights will be on tap for 2015 and beyond.

Slowly but surely the tide is turning in Khan’s favor for landing Mayweather. There is a small swell of fans who think Khan is being ducked because of his skill set and speed. Meanwhile, his handlers have been carefully matching him after Danny Garcia stopped Khan in the summer of 2012.

Thurman: Amir Khan is overrated

Thurman: Amir Khan is overrated

(Photo credit: Esther Lin/Showtime) Interim WBA welterweight champion Keith Thurman says he sees #1 WBC, #2 WBA Amir Khan (29-3, 19 KOs) as an overrated fighter. Thurman feels that Khan hasn’t beaten anyone at welterweight yet, and that he’s now fighting Devon Alexander for a possible chance to get a fight against boxing’s biggest star Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Thurman feels that Khan should at least be fighting actual welterweights without catch-weights. Thurman has made no secret to the fact that he’d be more than willing to share the ring with Khan if he would be willing to take the fight.

Khan to wear expensive trunks for Alexander fight

Khan to wear expensive trunks for Alexander fight

Amir Khan (29-3, 19 KOs) will be wearing some super expensive boxing trunks this Saturday night in his important fight against former two belt holder Devon Alexander (26-2, 14 KOs) at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Khan’s trunks for the fight have an estimated worth of £20,000 and £30,000, according to the Dailymail.co.uk. The trunks have 24 carat gold thread in the waist band along with crocodile trim.

This is an outrageously expensive pair of trunks, and it makes you wonder if Khan is getting a little ahead of himself in wearing something as expensive as this for a fight. He’s not at the level of guys like Floyd Mayweather Jr and Manny Pacquiao, and the chances are high that he’ll never be at that level unless he’s matched carefully to put him in with guys that aren’t dangerous punchers.
