Abraham and Stieglitz make weight

WBO super middleweight champion Robert Stieglitz (46-3, 26 KO’s) made weight today in coming in at 168 lbs on the dot for his title defense on Saturday against the 34-year-old Arthur Abraham (38-4, 28 KO’s) at the GETEC Arena, Magdeburg, Sachsen-Anhalt, Germany. Abraham, 34, also weighed in at 168 lbs. If Abraham looks as feeble and clueless as he did in losing to Stieglitz last year, then you can count on Abraham getting whipped again.

Abraham let Stieglitz bombard him for three rounds in their 2nd fight until the bout was halted in the 4th. From what I could see, Abraham didn’t look mentally into the fight. Even if the bout had been allowed to continue on, it was clear that he was going to lose. Abraham looked like someone that didn’t want to fight anymore.

Abraham-Stieglitz battle it out in rubber match this Saturday in Germany

34-year-old former two division world champion Arthur Abraham (38-4, 28 KO’s) will have his career on the line this Saturday night in his rubber match against WBO super middleweight champion Robert Stieglitz (46-3, 26 KO’s) at the GETEC Arena, in Magdeburg, Sachsen-Anhalt, Germany.

Abraham took a beating the last time he fought Stieglitz last year in March in Germany. Stieglitz didn’t do much to win the fight other than throw massive amounts of punches for three rounds until Abraham couldn’t continue due to a badly swollen eye in the 4th round. No secret: Abraham never learned to counter punch or to try and catch his opponents off guard after they’ve committed to a punch. Stieglitz used a primitive but highly effective attack-oriented style to get the better of him last year. It was like watching Aaron Pryor fight. Stieglitz didn’t take any breather’s from his bombardment of Abraham, and he punished him badly with head shots.

Abraham decisions De Carolis, but looks terrible

abraham445 If there was any question whether Arthur Abraham (38-4, 28 KO’s) is shot and needs to retire it was answered tonight with his awful to watch 12 round unanimous decision win over Giovanni De Carolis (20-5, 10 KO’s) at the EWE-Arena, Oldenburg, Niedersachsen, Germany. Abraham was unable to cut off the ring and handle the little bit of movement from De Carolis during the action. I didn’t see any improvement in Abraham’s game whatsoever from his defeat to Robert Stieglitz.

Abraham looked like a fighter that could no longer pull the trigger on his punches. It was pretty sad to see. Abraham still had the same turtle defense that Robert Stieglitz tore into earlier this year, and it was unbelievable that he was using it against the light hitting De Carolis.

Arthur Abraham vs. De Carolis tonight in Germany

Abraham_De_Carolis 33-year-old Arthur Abraham (37-4, 28 KO’s) will be taking part tonight against little known fringe contender Giovanni De Carolis (20-4, 10 KO’s) in a scheduled 12 round bout at the EWE-Arena, Oldenburg, Niedersachsen, Germany. This is a warm-up bout for Abraham to get him ready for his third fight against WBO super middleweight champion Robert Stieglitz in 2014.

The fighters have faced each other twice with each guy winning one fight and losing the other. Now Abraham is ready to put himself in position for yet another Stieglitz bout and he just has to defeat #13 IBF De Carolis. This should be fairly easy for Abraham, but I also thought that he would easily win his last fight against Willbeforce Shihepo last August, and boy was I wrong.

Arthur Abraham warms up against De Carolis for another world title shot

Arthur_Abraham Arthur Abraham (37-4, 28 KOs) is a man on a mission. On October 26, he defends the WBO Intercontinental Belt against Giovanni De Carolis (20-4, 10 KOs) in Oldenburg, Germany. However primarily, the 33-year-old wants to prove that he still has it in him to become again the WBO Super-Middleweight World Champion. Over a year ago, in August 2012, he won that very belt against Robert Stieglitz. But in March, he had to hand the title back to his fellow countryman due to a freakish eye injury.

Now that the score is even, Abraham is making himself ready for a third meeting with Stieglitz in 2014. He already made the first move in this direction with a victory over Willbeforce Shihepo in August to become the mandatory for Stieglitz. That would have been enough to get another crack at the world championship, but Abraham has other plans.

Braehmer and Abraham take decision wins in Schwerin, Pulev new IBF mandatory!

Stefano Abatangelo,Jrgen Brhmer Juergen Braehmer took another step towards another crack at a world title. On Saturday, the 34-year-old beat Stefano Abatangelo by unanimous decision (119:108, 119:108 and 115:111) in front of a sold-out home crowd at the Sport- und Kongresshalle Schwerin, Germany. “It was difficult to showcase my skills against Abatangelo as he has an awkward style,” said the light heavyweight contender who defended his European as well as his WBO International Title. “Still it was good for me to get some more rounds under my belt which will definitely help me in my next fight.” Braehmer is the mandatory to WBO Champion Sergey Kovalev.

Arthur Abraham had also to work hard to get his hands raised in Schwerin. Before a crowd of 5,600 spectators inside the arena, Abraham got the decision against durable Willbeforce Shihepo to win the WBO Intercontinental Title. The scores read 116:112, 116:113 and 117:111 in favor of the man from Berlin, Germany. This bout also marked the 10-year-anniversary of the former middleweight and super-middleweight champion’s professional career.

stieg1 stieg1 By Jeff Sorby: You’ve got to give Robert Stieglitz (44-3, 25 KO’s) a ton of credit tonight for putting together the perfect game plan to stop WBO super middleweight champion Arthur Abraham (36-4, 28 KO’s) in the 4th round in Magdeburg, Germany. Stieglitz’s plan was a simple one. Come out fast and overwhelm Abraham’s turtle shell defense with punches in the first part of the fight.

It worked out perfectly, as Abraham ended up being stopped from a badly swollen left eye after the 3rd round had ended. Abraham’s habit of just covering up in his turtle shell defense to save energy for the later rounds ended up backfiring on him.

Abraham, Culcay and Sprott Score Wins In Germany

Abraham_Bouadla Pictures: Photo Wende — WBO Super-Middleweight Champion Arthur Abraham ends the year with a bang. Abraham proved that he is back at the top after defeating Mehdi Bouadla by TKO in round eight in Nuremberg, Germany on Saturday night. The 7.000 fans in attendance witnessed a great performance by the titlist, who presented them with an early Christmas gift.

Abraham began the fight forceful. The prodigy of coach Ulli Wegner pressurized Bouadla right from the get go, just like he did in his fight against Robert Stieglitz on August 25. Powerful jabs found their way through the defense of the French challenger. Right towards the end of round one the champion let loose a salvage of heavy blows, which got Bouadla into trouble and the crowd rising from their seats and chanting Abraham’s name.

But the hard hitting titleholder did not only rely on his power and high volume of punches. By constantly switching his target from head to body, he was eager to keep the challenger guessing as to where he would attempt to hit him next.

Abraham stops Bouadla in 8th!

66510bc4a3 By Marcus Richardson, photo by Wende — In his first defense of his WBO super middleweight title Arthur Abraham (36-3, 28 KO’s) put in an impressive performance in stopping #14 WBO Mehdi Bouadla (26-5, 11 KOs) in the 8th round on Saturday night at the Arena Nürnberger Versicherung, Nuremberg (Nürnberg), Bayern, Germany. Bouadla was cut on the right eyelid in the 7th, and it was giving him major problems in the 8th round at the time the fight was halted. Bouadla was just taking one-way punishment in that round when the referee wisely stepped in and halted the fight.

In rounds one through four, Abraham attacked Bouadla with punches in bunches and then would tire out and then let Bouadla have an opportunity to land his own shots. Surprisingly, Bouadla turned out to be a very respectable puncher and it was an eye opener to see him unloading on Abraham. The last time I had seen Bouadla fight against Mikkel Kessler last year, Bouadla wasn’t able to lay a glove on Kessler and was quickly taken out in a 6th round stoppage. But against Abraham, Bouadla landed a lot of heavy shots. Part of the reason for that is the 5’9″ Abraham’s lack of size, but the other reason was that Abraham kept allowing Bouadla to have chances to land his shots by backing up to the ropes.

Bouadla_Abraham By Jeff Sorby: WBO super middleweight champion Arthur Abraham (35-3, 27 KO’s) makes a defense of his title tonight against Mehdi Bouadla (26-4, 11 KO’s) at the Arena Nürnberger Versicherung, Nuremberg (Nürnberg), Bayern, Germany. This shouldn’t be too tough of a fight for the 32-year-old Abraham because Bouadla, 5’8”, doesn’t have the size, speed, power or the boxing ability to do what other fighters did one after to Abraham in the Super Six tournament in his embarrassing attempt at competing against the best at 168.

Bouadla has very limited size, and he’s about as tall as the average welterweight, but he’s fighting at super middleweight. For Abraham, 5’9”, Bouadla is perhaps the only fighter he’s faced at 168 that he’s got a height advantage over. Not being big is going to create a lot of problems for Bouadla because It’s going to mean that he’ll have to stand and trade with Abraham, and that’s probably not going to go well for Bouadla.

Bouadla got apart last year when he stepped it up a couple levels in terms of competition in his fight with Mikkel Kessler. Bouadla was destroyed in only six rounds by Kessler, who looked like he was toying with him the entire time. It was effortless for Kessler because Bouadla was short and didn’t have the speed or power to make a fight of it.
