Bermane Stiverne Interview: The WBC Heavyweight Champion Speaks Out

Canada`s Bermane “B. Ware” Stiverne became the World Boxing Council (“WBC”) Heavyweight Champion after he defeated Chris Arreola on May 10, 2014 when he landed two crushing knockdowns in the sixth round that prompted the referee to quickly halt the bout. This victory enabled him to become the first Haitian-born heavyweight world title holder. Stiverne possesses an outstanding record of 24-1-1 with 21 victories coming by way of knockout.

He`s unbeaten in his last thirteen bouts and among those wins have come against Arreola in their first bout, Ray Austin, Franklin Lawrence and Demetrice King. Over the past couple of years, Stiverne collected the WBC Silver World Champion, WBC International Champion, World Boxing Association Fedelain Champion and the WBC USNBC Champion. The hard hitting orthodox boxer who has knocked out 81% of his opponents, will be making his first title defense against the undefeated yet untested, mandatory challenger, Deontay Wilder, 32-0, 32KOs. Wilder vs. Stiverne and Garcia vs. Postol purse bids ordered for September 12th by WBC

It looks like boxing fans won’t get to see a fight between IBF light welterweight champion Lamont Peterson and WBA/WBC 140 pound champion Danny Garcia for later this year, because the World Boxing Council has ordered a purse bid for the fight between Garcia and his mandatory challenger #1 WBC Viktor Postol (26-0, 11 KOs) for September 12th.

Garcia and Peterson could still face each other instead by getting permission by the WBC for a unification match, but it’s unclear how much interest there is in such a match-up. There was talk that if the fight did happen between them, it would be another catch-weight fight like Garcia’s recent bout against Rod Salka and Peterson’s fight last year against Lucas Matthysse.

Goosen gives Deontay Wilder a good chance of beating Stiverne

Trainer Joe Goosen believes that #1 WBC Deontay Wilder (32-0, 32 KOs) has a good chance of beating WBC heavyweight champion Bermane Stiverne later this year when Deontay faces Stiverne for the WBC title.

Goosen likes Deontay’s right hand and left hook, and he believes that he could get to Stiverne if he sits against the ropes like he did in his recent fights against Chris Arreola. Goosen expects Deontay to be able to land his right hands against Stiverne.

The only thing Goosen doesn’t know is how well Stiverne will be able to take those big shots. He noted that Arreola, who came into the fight with a right arm injury, was able to hurt Stiverne with right hands.

Deontay Wilder not worried about Stiverne’s power

Unbeaten #1 WBC Deontay Wilder (32-0, 32 KOs) likes his chances against WBC heavyweight champion Bernane Stiverne (24-1-1, 21 KOs) for when they meet up later on this year in a heavyweight championship fight on Showtime.

Deontay doesn’t see anything in Stiverne’s fighting style and with his power that will give him any trouble. He doesn’t feel that he needs to study Stiverne any longer after watching his last two fights against Chris Arreola, as says Stiverne does the same things over and over. Deontay doesn’t say what those things are, but it’s likely he’s referring to Stiverne throwing a lot of left hooks, right hands and jabs.

Deontay Wilder: Stiverne fight will happen in November

#1 WBC unbeaten heavyweight Deontay Wilder (32-0, 32 KOs) feels certain that he’ll be getting a title shot against WBC heavyweight champ Bermane Stiverne (24-1-1, 21 KOs) in the next three months in November. Deontay says that the letters have already been sent out for the fight and that the negotiations are about to start.

“The letters went out today. We’re about to into negotiations. The world will know soon as far as where it’s going to be, venues and all that stuff. All that stuff is coming,” Deontay said to Thaboxingvoice.com. “That’s the month [November]. That’s the month that they are claiming it will be one hundred percent,” Deontay said.

Deontay Wilder stops Gavern, wants Klitschko after Stiverne fight

#1 WBC heavyweight contender Deontay Wilder (32-0, 32 KOs) stopped 37-year-old Jason Gavern (25-17-3, 11 KOs), in the 4th round last Saturday night at the StubHub Center, in Carson, California.

Deontay knocked Gavern down twice in the fight with chopping right hands in dropping him in the 3rd and 4th rounds. Gavern, who reportedly owns his own landscaping business, decided not to come out for the 5th round.

LAS VEGAS (July 15, 2014) – Long before World Boxing Council (WBC) heavyweight champion Bermane “B. Ware” Stiverne (24-1, 21 KOs) knocked out Chris Arreola (35-4) this past May to claim the coveted title belt vacated by retired Vitali Klitschko, Deontay “The Bronze Bomber” Wilder (31-0, 31 KOs) started talking smack about Stiverne and he hasn’t let up as the impending showdown approaches later this year.

Wilder is the mandatory, No. 1 challenger for Stiverne’s first defense. If the relatively untested fighter from Alabama believes his incessant trash talk, juvenile antics and bizarre behavior is getting to Stiverne, he has another thing coming when they step intoi the ring. In fact, Stiverne admits he’s been amused.

“He’s not going to get under my skin,” Stiverne said. “I think he’s funny. Maybe he should think about doing a comedy act after I beat him? Friends have sent me stuff he’s said and done. It’s funny. He’s like a little kid who needs attention, so he keeps opening his mouth. His trash talking doesn’t bother me at all. I saw some people who brought up what he’s said. What am I supposed to do, hand my title to him? I guess he wants to entertain his fans. If he thinks his tricks are going to bother me, he’s going to be in big trouble.”

IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (62-3, 52 KO’s) sent out a congratulatory tweet to newly crowned WBC heavyweight champion Bermane Stiverne (24-1-1, 21 KO’s) for his win over Chris Arreola last Saturday night in Los Angeles, California. Wladimir is hoping that Stiverne will now agree to a unification fight with him so that he can capture his Brother Vitali Klitschko’s old WBC title.

ESPN picked up the anticipated rematch and aired it live on the main network rather than ESPN2, which is the home of their popular “Friday Night Fights” series. Here’s a look back at a great event.

The Atmosphere:

It was a unique setting for a heavyweight world title bout, with the card taking place on the University of Southern California campus in Los Angeles. By contrast, the first Stiverne-Arreola match last April was held in front of a larger audience at the Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, California.

Bermane Stiverne proves he’s for real, and now everybody wants to fight him!

If Haitian-born heavyweight puncher Bermane Stiverne didn’t prove he was for real in his last fight, when he out-pointed Chris Arreola over 12-rounds, he sure proved it last night in stopping Arreola in the 6th-round. Stiverne, a powerful counter-puncher, was losing the fight last night, yet he sensationally made the score-cards null and void courtesy of his right hand.

Almost instantly, the talk turned to who the brand new WBC king will fight next (or who his promoter Don King – who, with last night’s big win, made a comeback to the top of the heavyweight division – will allow Stiverne to fight next). King spoke of Stiverne’s right to box a voluntary defence, making it a real possibility that Stiverne will not face WBC mandatory and unbeaten KO artist Deontay Wilder next. King also spoke of taking Stiverne on a “world tour.”
