Recently, top British promoter Frank Warren was quoted as saying how he feels there is only one middleweight in the world that has a chance of beating the dangerous, seriously talented and avoided Gennady Golovkin, and that is his fighter, reigning WBO 160-pound king Billy Joe Saunders. Warren also spoke, at a recent press conference to promote Saunders’ next fight, set for April 30th against Max Bursak, of how the Saunders-Golovkin fight had to happen at the right time.

Billy Joe Saunders wants Gennady Golovkin Super-Fight in the summer – but has to get past Max Bursak first
British southpaw Billy Joe Saunders has made it clear many times: he is not scared of any man. The conqueror of Chris Eubank Junior and the reigning WBO middleweight champion has announced how he will defend against Max Bursak on April 30th, but that fight will, hopefully, be a big step towards a super-fight with the avoided Gennady Golovkin.
As quoted by The Mail, Saunders has spoken to his promoter Frank Warren and he wants a summer stadium fight with GGG this year:
Saunders willing to fight Golovkin in England for less money
WBO middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders (23-0, 12 KOs) would be willing to take less money if IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “Triple G” Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs) were willing to travel to the UK to fight him over there in his own home territory for a unification fight in April.
Golovkin and his management are the ones that really want the fight with Saunders, as they want to pick up another title so that they can have a chance to unify all the belts. It seems less important to Saunders to unify the titles. He just won the WBO belt in beating Andy Lee last December, and he wants to hold onto his belt as long as possible and make some good defenses of his title.
Saunders wants Golovkin to increase offer
It’s not going to be easy for Gennady Golovkin and his management to get a unification fight against WBO middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders for April 23. Saunders is saying that the offer that was made to him by Golovkin’s management at K2 Promotions was not enough for him to agree to a fight against the 33-year-old IBF/IBO/WBA champion Golovkin.
Saunders, 26, says he wants more money and/or Golovkin to agree to come to the UK to fight him. Golovkin fights on HBO, so it’s not probable that he would be able to fight Saunders in the UK due to the time zone issues HBO would have to deal with in a fight like this.

Saunders defeats Lee, wins WBO title
England’s Billy Joe Saunders (23-0, 12 KOs) won what some boxing fans are calling a robbery in beating WBO middleweight champion Andy Lee (34-3-1, 24 KOs) by a 12 round majority decision tonight in their mega-fight at the Manchester Arena in Manchester, UK. The win for Saunders boiled down to him knocking Lee down twice in the 3rd.
Saunders seemed to lose focus after the 3rd round, and I had him losing every round from then on. The judges scored the fight 113-113, 114-112 and 115-111. The last score by judge Dave Parris was an interesting one because he seemed to give Lee very little credit despite the fact that he totally controlled the fight after the 2nd round.

Andy Lee vs. Billy Joe Saunders: A Traveling Man Tussle in Manchester
This Saturday night live on BoxNation (Showtime Extreme in U.S.) Andy Lee and Billy Joe Saunders take center stage at the Manchester Arena. Lee is the more accomplished fighter with real one-punch knockout power. Saunders is unbeaten and will need to use his skills rather than heart to secure the victory. Both fighters come from traveling backgrounds so the WBO belt comes secondary to pride and heritage.
Lee vs Saunders: Andy Lee turns nasty
WBO World Middleweight Champion Andy Lee is boxing’s Jekyll and Hyde by saying he can turn on a nasty switch.
The Irishman is usually a happy character, but he knows his mean side will come out in the titanic battle against undefeated rival Billy Joe Saunders this Saturday night at the Manchester Arena when he puts his title on the line.
