The past few months have been exceptionally exciting for fight fans across the globe. Match ups such as, Rios v Alvardo, Floyd v Guerrero, Donaire v Rigondeaux have once again given the die- hards an opportunity to grab ‘a cold one’ and cancel all their weekend night time engagements. Super fights are now being made more often which in turn has woken up the sport that many critics claimed was dying a slow death.

This weekend will be no exception as IBF Super-Middleweight Champion Carl Froch takes on Denmarks WBA Champion Mikkel Kessler. This will be the second time the pair meet, and Froch is eager for revenge after losing a close affair on points back in 2010.

Kessler looking to beat Froch in front of his own fans

WBA super middleweight champion Mikkel Kessler (46-2, 35 KO’s) beat IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch (30-2, 22 KO’s) soundly three years ago in Herning, Denmark in front of Kessler’s Danish fans and a small spatter of Froch’s British fans. This time when Kessler faces Froch on Saturday night at the O2 Arena in London, England, Kessler will be looking to whip Froch in front of a huge crowd of Froch’s British fans.

Kessler wants to show that his win last time wasn’t because he was fighting at home in Denmark. It was because he was the more talented fighter than the upright, easy to hit Froch.

Kessler said “I want to show Carl and all of his boxing fans that I’m better than him.”

Well, if the fight follows the pattern of their last fight, Froch will come out aggressive; taste some of Kessler’s power and back off immediately. Last time, Froch fought in spurts where he would come at Kessler for some exchanges and then back away after Kessler got the better of him. The fight followed this pattern until late in the fight when it clear that Froch was well behind in the fight and needed to sweep the championship rounds in order to have a chance to win.

Carl Froch vs. Mikkel Kessler When Carl ‘The Cobra’ Froch (30-2, 22 KOs) squares off against ‘Viking Warrior’ Mikkel Kessler (46-2, 35 KOs) for the second time this Saturday, it will have been more than three years since their first grueling encounter in Group Stage 2 of the Super Six Boxing Classic. That contest unquestionably represented the most compelling and entertaining match-up in the entire super middleweight tournament, and there is good reason to believe the rematch will be an equally competitive battle that rivals, or perhaps even surpasses, the original. Froch and Kessler are still both universally recognized as two of the very best 168 pound boxers in the world, just as they were on April 24, 2010 when Kessler was awarded a hard fought unanimous decision on his home turf in Denmark. What can we expect this time from these two proven warriors? Will ‘The Cobra’ strike the Dane with a lethal bite, or will ‘The Viking’ savagely slay the serpent?

Carl Froch has fought five times since he faced Kessler, going 4-1 during that stretch, while Mikkel has won all three of his bouts. Groves has good idea who’ll win between Froch and Kessler on Saturday

kessler#11 Unbeaten George Groves sparred with both IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch and WBA champion Mikkel Kessler, and he feels knows who’s going to be the clear winner on Saturday night based on his sparring sessions. He won’t say who it’ll be though, but you can guess that Kessler will be the guy that comes out on top in this one.

Groves said to the telegraph.co.uk “I’ve sparred with both. I spared with Carl before his first fight with Kessler in 2010. I suppose I’ve had a better look at both of them than most have, and for me there’s a clear winner, but I can’t really share. It wouldn’t be fair to the lads.”

froch922 Boxing fans should already be aware that on Saturday the 25th of May, Nottinghamshire warrior, Carl Froch, will be fighting in his long awaited rematch with Mikkel Kessler at the 02 Arena. The first bout was a captivating toe to toe war and it is believed that this Super Middleweight contest will also be a battle for the ages.

In the build up to the fight there have been no real hiccups. This is a far cry from the volcanic ash cloud fiasco, one that Froch rather dubiously blamed for his loss in their 2010 match-up. However, there has still been some room for dissatisfaction in the Froch camp. He is allegedly enraged by George Groves’s and Nathan Cleverly’s decision to assist Kessler in sparring. As a result, has labelled the duo “bitter and jealous” in a cutting tirade of abuse.

Magee: Kessler will beat Froch again

Kessler#14 Former WBA super middleweight champion Brian Magee is picking the current WBA 168 lb. champion Mikkel Kessler (46-2, 35 KO’s) to beat IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch (30-2, 22 KO’s) this Saturday night in their pay per view fight at the O2 Arena in London, UK.

Magee has fought both guys in the past, and he feels that Kessler is the far better fighter of the two.

Magee said to Sky Sports News “I think Kessler’s going to outbox him…he knows how to beat him, he has beaten him before and this time he is going to beat him better.”

After watching some of his recent fights, Calzaghe believes that Kessler’s physical skills have deteriorated enough since their 2007 to where he’s now vulnerable to losing to IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch (30-2, 22 KO’s) in their rematch on May 25th in London at the O2 Arena.

Kessler, 34, is a year younger than the 35-year-old Froch, but Calzaghe thinks Froch is the physically younger fighter now and is still at the peak of his career going into his rematch with Kessler.

Ward: Froch and Kessler are just using my name to get attention

ward643 ward643 By Michael Collins: WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward thinks both Mikkel Kessler and Carl Froch have been just using his name to help promote themselves and put themselves on same level as him. Ward beat both Kessler and Froch in the Super Six tournament in fights that left no question who the better fighter was.

Ward hasn’t cared for the comments that both fighters have made since he beat them, and he feels that they’ve made excuses for their losses instead of giving him the credit he deserves for schooling them.

Ward said in an interview with esnewsreporting.com “I’ve lost all respect for Mikkel Kessler and I’ve lost all respect for Carl Froch. Neither one of those guys want to fight [me]. They’re just using my name to keep their name up. If I fight either one of those guys, I don’t care which country it’s in, it’s not going to go the distance. I don’t have to go to Denmark to become a star; they have to come to the U.S if they want to become an all-time great.”

Hearn wants Froch vs. Kessler 2 to be PPV

kessler34 By Michael Collins: Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Sport plans on making the rematch between Carl Froch and Mikkel Kessler a pay per view bout on Sky Box Office. This apparently is needed in part to help out with the costs of the contracts for Froch and Kessler, both of which will be receiving 2 million pounds are more for the fight. The PPV part for the fight will be finalized by next week, according to the Telegraph.

Hearn said in an interview with the telegraph.co.uk “For a fight of this magnitude like Froch-Kessler to take place, pay-per-view is a necessity.”

Sky TV got out of the PPV business following some disastrous bouts like the Audley Harrison vs. David Haye fight in 2010. It’s interesting that Sky TV will get back into the PPV boxing business for Kessler-Froch rematch.

Froch vs. Kessler 2 on May 25th at the O2 Arena in London, England

kessler343434 By Michael Collins: Well, it looks like Eddie Hearn from Matchroom Sport has worked his magic and got a badly desired rematch for his fighter IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch (30-2, 22 KO’s) against WBA 168 pound champion Mikkel Kessler (46-2, 35 KO’s) at the O2 Arena (Millenium Dome), Greenwich, London, United Kingdom.

The only thing that awaits now is the approval from the IBF for Froch to bypass his mandatory defense against Adonis Stevenson, but it looks like the IBF will grant Hearn and Froch permission to maneuver around that dangerous fight.

Froch believes that he should have won their previous fight back in April 2010 in Denmark.

Froch ended up losing by a 12 round unanimous decision largely because Kessler seemed to get the better of him during virtually every exchange they had. Kessler’s superior hand speed and better combinations enabled him to land the cleaner shots against the long-armed Froch. I don’t think much will change other than the fight now taking place in the UK, and perhaps Froch getting the benefit of the doubt if the rounds are close. We might see a controversial decision in this fight, and frankly I’d be surprised if we didn’t.
