Arreola obliterates Mitchell in 1st round TKO

arreola555 In a disappointing Showtime card filled with terrible mismatches, heavyweight Chris Arreola (36-3, 31 KO’s) totally obliterated Seth Mitchell (26-2-1, 19 KO’s) in the 1st round tonight at the Fantasy Springs Casino, in Indio, California, USA.

Arreola dropped the weak-chinned Mitchell twice in the 1st round. The fight, if you want to call it that, was then halted after Arreola hit Mitchell with a series of right hands that sent him running towards the ropes for safety behind the referee. Looked almost comical how Mitchell ended up behind the referee.

The first knockdown game from a right hand to the head that put Mitchell on the canvas. Mitchell got up, but his legs were totally gone and it was clear he wasn’t going to make it out of the round unless he held. Unfortunately for Mitchell, he didn’t choose to hold onto Arreola, and moments latter Mitchell was knocked down again after getting hit with several hard right hands to the head.

Can Seth Mitchell Survive Chris Arreola’s Power?

Seth Mitchell managed to cautiously labor his way to a tentative 12 round points win during his June rematch with Johnathon Banks. There were a few shaky moments for Mitchell early when it looked like Banks had him ready to go again, but a repeat of the upset KO from their first match was not to be this time around. To his credit Mitchell survived. He did this by fighting smarter and being incredibly careful.

It also helped that Banks was unusually lethargic. For whatever reason Banks was just not aggressive enough, especially following those key instances where he seemed to rock the man he had stopped in the 2^nd round some 7 months earlier.

Can Mitchell employ similar tactics this Saturday to be successful when he faces Chris Arreola?

Probably not.

Chris Arreola: A “Nightmare” Of A Fight For Seth Mitchell?

arreola56445 You’ve got to hand it to former football player Seth Mitchell. The once-beaten 31-year-old had limited amateur experience and “Mayhem,” as the Brandywine slugger is known, has not found the transition from the field to the ring to be a natural one. But whatever shortcomings Mitchell has as a fighter – and his critics maintain they are plenty – the 26-1-1(19) contender makes up for them, or almost makes up for them, with sheer heart.

Mitchell is not blessed with a good chin, and he appears lost and unsure what to do when hurt (see his stoppage loss to Johnathon Banks and the early going of the return), but he is making the most of his boxing career. By even taking the revenge win over Banks – a fight that resulted in Banks seeming totally disinterested in capitalising on the early, near fight-ending success he had – Mitchell showed he is game, and his next fight, an almost-made match-up with the vastly experienced Chris Arreola, further proves Mitchell is willing to take risks. But is a fight with Arreola, 35-3(30) too much of a risk for Mitchell?
