Roman Gonzalez (43-0, 37ko) had been one of boxing’s best kept secrets for a good while until his winning HBO debut on May’s Golovkin/Monroe undercard saw him gain an army of new fans, and now the P4P WBC flyweight champion has been added to the October 17th HBO Golovkin/Lemiueux PPV card in a bid to further boost his Stateside profile.
David Lemieux
‘Full Credit to David Lemieux for Stepping Up’ says Tom Loeffler / Golovkin v Lemieux
Boxing fans the world over were rejoicing last night at the news big hitting middleweights Gennady Golovkin and David Lemieux are set to face off in a huge unification showdown, live on HBO PPV on October 17th at the legendary Mecca of boxing, Madison Square Garden.
Newly crowned IBF champion Lemieux had thought to be first considering making a mandatory defence of the title he won last month against Hassan N’Dam, although earlier this week his promoter Oscar DeLa Hoya had confirmed provisional talks to make the fight had begun.
Golovkin-Lemieux on HBO PPV on October 17th!
Moments ago, it was revealed that IBF middleweight champion David Lemieux (34-2, 31 KOs) and WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (33-0, 30 KOs) have reached a deal for them to face each other on HBO pay-per-view on October 17th at New York’s Madison Square Garden. This is a fight that is going to be exciting from start to finish. Lemieux is coming off of an impressive win over former WBO middleweight champion Hassan N’Dam last June, and he’s looking better than ever.

Gennady Golovkin & David Lemieux Camps In Provisional Talks
There seems to be a consistent struggle for big-hitting WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin to find a suitable opponent, with him being linked to a number of names from Andre Ward and (previously) Carl Froch at 168, through now to newly crowned IBF middleweight champion David Lemieux, in what would be a true battle of the bangers should it take place.
After his exciting victory over Hassan N’Dam in Canada last month, Lemieux’s promoter Oscar De La Hoya had said his fighter would be looking to face his (unnamed) mandatory challenger next, although the Golden Boy has this week said to ESPN that provisional talks between the respective camps for a unification bout are now underway.
“We’re exploring options for David Lemieux and discussing things with Tom Loeffler (Golovkin’s promoter from K2 Promotions)”
Golovkin v Lemieux Can Go Ahead Now Says Loeffler
Following David Lemieux’s all-action win against Frenchman Hassan N’Dam at the weekend, which saw the French-Canadian capture the IBF 160 lb strap, Gennady Golovkin took to his twitter and issued an open challenge to both Lemieux and promoter Oscar De La Hoya, insisting now is the right time – not later – to make a fight between the two heavy-hitting middleweights.
Sadly for the fans it seemed an imminent clash was some way off as De La Hoya spoke out to insist that his fighter was due to fight a mandatory defence later this year that would keep the two punchers apart – at least until 2016.
Golovkin Wants Froch Or Lemieux Now, Not Later
There has been some interesting talk from the much-avoided 160 lb fan favorite Gennady Golovkin this weekend regarding potential future fights, with the Kazakh knockout artist speaking out to British media and on twitter to talk Carl Froch and new IBF middleweight champion David Lemieux – who captured his strap in exciting but no means technically excellent manner on Saturday night against Frenchman Hassan N’Dam.
I have absolutely no confidence in Froch fighting on and the more time passes, the more that belief looks to be reality. However, he had expressed an interest in a Golovkin fight and for a man as avoided as the Kazakh star – all publicity is good publicity and he wants the world to know he is good on his side of the bargain and really will fight all comers.
Lemieux decisions N’Dam to win vacant IBF middleweight title
The big punching David Lemieux (34-2, 31 KOs) built up an early lead and held onto it in the second half of the fight to defeat #1 IBF Hassan N’Dam (31-2, 18 KOs) by a 12 round unanimous decision on Saturday night to win the International Boxing Federation 160 pound title at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Canada. Lemieux’s left hook was a big weapon for him in this fight, as he knocked N’Dam down with it on four occasions in the fight.
The scores were 115-109, 115-109, and 114-110.
The Forgotten Fight: Lemieux v N’Dam Preview
(Photo credit: Photo Credit: Eye of The Tiger Management) We are spoilt for choice as boxing fans this weekend as no fewer than three big clashes hit our screens. We of course have the PBC Broner v Porter card, as well as the “Son of God’s” return in Oakland when Andre Ward takes on Britain’s Paul Smith – who incidentally came in a whopping 4 lbs over the agreed 172 catch-weight.
However the one fight that has seemingly gone under the radar is the IBF 160 lb title fight between big -punching French-Canadian David Lemieux and France’s teak tough Hassan N’Dam. It is on Fox Sports 2 in the US and has thankfully been picked up by Boxnation in the UK.
David Lemieux vs. Hassan N’Dam this Saturday, June 20th on Fox Sports 2
This Saturday on June 20th, #4 IBF David Lemieux (33-2, 31 KOs) will be fighting for a world title for the first time in his eight year pro career against #1 IBF Hassan N’Dam (31-1, 18 KOs) for the vacant IBF middleweight title at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Canada. The Lemieux vs. N’Dam fight will be televised on Fox Sports 2 and Fox Deportes.
Lemieux’s management has slowly been bringing him back since his losses to Marco Antonio Rubio and Joachim Alcine in 2011. Lemieux has since won his last eight fights against weak B and C level opposition. He hasn’t really been tested until now. N’Dam isn’t quite A-level in terms of talent, but he’s a good B level guy with excellent hand speed, and good mobility.
Canada’s New ‘Golden Boy’ – Lemieux v N’Dam Preview
There have been some problems getting this fight together, promotionally – and with the rankings systems – but it would finally appear that the big punching Canadian David Lemieux (33-2, 31ko) and teak-tough Frenchman Hassan N’Dam (31-1, 18ko) are finally going to get it on – June 20, in Montreal, Quebec Canada.
For the French-Canadian fans it will certainly be a huge affair and a great fight stylistically with this fight representing the new Golden Boy Promotions signing attempting to make the jump from serious contender to bone-fide world champion.
