By Andrew Picken: Boxing don’t you just love it. Last night another drama worthy of any Eastenders or Coronation Street Script unfolded with the unthinkable happening … Price stopped again. Inevitably the criticisms will start rolling in thick and fast, I have my opinion but let’s be honest hindsight is a wonderful skill. Besides I like Price he comes across, articulated, intelligent and composed outside of the ring and this loss will be a really difficult time for promoter and fighter.

price78 American heavyweight Tony Thompson (38-3, 26 KO’s) destroyed David Price (15-2, 13 KO’s) tonight by a 5th round TKO in Liverpool, England and he may have badly crippled his career in the process. Thompson said he wasn’t surprised that Price was lured into a slugfest with him, because he didn’t think Price’s new trainer Lennox Lewis would be able to make enough changes to his fighting style in one camp to beat him.

Thompson said to Sky after the fight “Lewis is probably going to be a great trainer and teacher, but he only had one training camp with the guy. He’s not going to get that style with one training camp. Lewis didn’t get it one time when he was working with Emmanuel. I knew he wasn’t going to get it using a second hand Emmanuel like Lennox Lewis.”

Thompson destroys David Price in 5!

Tony Thompson made it two for two as he took out former Olympic silver medal winner David Price for the second time in just over three months with a fifth round stoppage at the Echo Arena in Liverpool, England.

The fight was broadcast LIVE in the United States on Wealth TV and www.wealthtv.com

After chess match of a first round, the second was nothing but action as Thompson tried to rough up Price and landed a hard left that startled Price. Later in the round, Price landed a hard right that drove Thompson to the ropes and seconds later deposited Thompson on the canvas from a hard right hand. Round three was more of the same as Price started the round by rocking Thompson with a hard right to the top of the head.

How does Price fight coming off of a KO loss?

price73 price73 Tonight, David Price (15-1, 13 KO’s) will be making his first appearance since being knocked out in the 2nd round by Tony Thompson last February. While a lot of fans commend the 29-year-old Price for having the guts to look for an immediate rematch with Thompson, there are huge question marks about how Price will look in this fight.

You have to remember that before Price lost to Thompson earlier this year, Price had been rolling over his opponents one after another and he’d been filled with confidence. You could see it before his fights in the way he acted during the press conferences and in the weigh-ins against his overmatched opposition.

Maloney confident David Price will beat Tony Thompson tonight

price566 Promoter Frank Maloney thinks his fighter heavyweight David Price (15-1, 13 KO’s) has completely learned his lesson from his 2nd round TKO defeat at the hands of Tony Thompson (37-3, 25 KO’s) from last February, and he’s convinced that Price will beat him tonight to avenge that loss at the Echo Arena in London, UK. Maloney and Price see the loss as the end result of Price out too fast looking for a KO last time, and not fully seeing the danger that Thompson represented in that fight.

Maloney said to the Liverpool Echo “I always believe in my fighters and one bad fight does not make a bad fighter. Tony can talk all he likes and look as good as he likes but I’m 100% confident that David has learned from the last fight.”

price5 price5 Lennox Lewis thinks heavyweight David Price (15-1, 13 KO’s) will avenge his loss to Tony Thompson (37-3, 25 KO’s) tomorrow night and do it in style by knocking the 41-year-old American out in the process at the Echo Arena, in Liverpool, Merseyside, United Kingdom.

Price, 6’8”, was taken out by Thompson in two rounds last February in a knockout that halted Price’s progress towards a title shot. Before the fight there had been talk of the 29-year-old Thompson soon getting a world title shot against one of the Kitschko brothers.

price#2 price#2 Heavyweight David Price (15-1, 13 KO’s) is in a must-win situation this Saturday night against Tony Thompson (37-3, 25 KO’s) in their rematch at the Echo Arena in Liverpool, England. Price was already starched by the 6’5” Thompson last February in 2 rounds, and now Price is going for a second shot at the American.

Why is Price doing this? Well, he wasn’t supposed to lose to the 41-year-old Thompson, that’s why. Thompson was supposed to be another aging lion for Price to pick up a relatively scalp to add to his growing collection other old scalps against 46-year-old Matt Skelton and 41-year-old Audley Harrison.

price46 price46 British heavyweight David Price (15-1, 13 KO’s) is taking out all the stops in getting ready for his rematch next month against 41-year-old Tony Thompson (37-3, 25 KO’s) on July 6th at the Echo Arena in Liverpool, UK. The soon to be 30-year-old Price will be bringing in some of Wladimir Klitschko’s sparring partners from Europe to spar with him in Liverpool.

Price wants to spar as much 100 rounds, like former heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis used to do when he was still fighting. Price was getting training guidance with Lewis recently and he’s got Price working out a lot harder than before in order to improve the 6’8” former Olympian.

Price vs Thompson II: Is The Price Right?

price#2 price#2 On July 6th UK Heavyweight hope David Price returns to the scene which derailed his express-like march through the lower to mid echelons of the Heavyweight division. Can the tracks be rapidly repaired or does the damage go beyond the tracks, is the fledgling Scouse Express already destined for the scrapheap?

Returning to the events of February at a packed out Echo Arena filled with his adoring home fans Price was a massive favorite with the bookmakers. Thompson represented a significant step up in quality for Price. Price coming of the back of relatively impressive performances had been kept active by the shrewd management of Frank Maloney. Price looked devastating against Audley Harrison and in particular against Sam Sexton-I believe Price’s best career performance. However I thought Price looked untidy and surprisingly vulnerable against an ageing Mat Skelton, watching the fight it became clear that Price could do with developing his inside fight skills, Price certainly looked uncomfortable at times when Mat was applying pressure, maybe not hurt but I got the impression that a decent pressure fighter could cause all kinds of problems for Price.
