Khan says Alexander and Guerrero are in play for December

Khan says Alexander and Guerrero are in play for December

Amir Khan would like to be facing Floyd Mayweather Jr or Manny Pacquiao in his next fight in December, but neither of those fighters will be available to him at that time, so he wants to take the best fight possible against either Robert Guerrero or Devon Alexander.

Khan wants to pick up a big win over an opponent with a name so that it can catapult him into a fight against Mayweather next year. Khan believes that a big win will get him the fight that he’s been wanting for ages against Mayweather, who he believes he can beat at this point in his career.

Soto Karass: I have to put a beating on Devon Alexander

Soto Karass: I have to put a beating on Devon Alexander

(Picture credit: Hogan Photos) 31-year-old Jesus Soto Karass (28-9-3, 18 KO’s) plans on taking the fight to former IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander (25-2, 14 KO’s) in their scheduled 10 round fight this Saturday night at the StubHub Center in Carson, California.

Soto Karass has a good blueprint to follow in how to beat the 27-year-old Alexander by following what Shawn Porter did by coming at Alexander and mugging him on the inside for 12 rounds. #6 IBF Alexander is a good fighter on the outside, but Porter exposed him as having just rudimentary skills on the inside in giving him a pounding in the process of winning a 12 round last December.

Austin Trout – Well, I want to thank God for the opportunity to get right back to the position where I left, where I felt I belonged. A fighter like Lara is right there in my resume to be fighting the best and being the best.

Q – Hi, guys. Thanks for taking the time to do the call. First question is for Mr. Trout. Austin, I’d like your assessment of Erislandy Lara. What does he bring to the table? What do you think of him technically and how do you plan to beat him?

Cunningham doubts Alexander vs. Khan will happen

alexander434Yesterday Team Khan came out with a statement saying that the rumors about Amir Khan (28-3, 19 KO’s) facing Floyd Mayweather Jr. in May were false and that Khan would be fighting IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander (25-1, 14 KO’s) on December 7th. Alexander’s trainer Kevin Cunningham doesn’t believe the statement from Team Khan, because the Khan-Alexander fight still hasn’t even been negotiated and there’s only 2 months to go before the fight.

Cunningham is saying that if the Khan-Alexander fight isn’t negotiated by October 7th, Alexander won’t take the fight because they want at least 8 weeks to train to get ready. They don’t want to be told at the last minute the fight is happening and end up not ready.

Schaefer: Khan and Alexander on board for December 7th fight

khan4532Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer is saying that he’s got an agreement from both Amir Khan and IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander for a fight on December 7th in Dubai. Schaefer is still working out the details of the fight and he still needs to iron out the venue, but he’s got the hardest part out of the way in getting both guys to agree to the fight.

Schaefer’s grand plan is to have Khan fight Floyd Mayweather Jr. next year if he gets past Alexander. That’s a big if. Khan looks almost like he’s on his last legs in losing two out of his last four fights and barely beat Julio Diaz in his last fight.

That would have been three losses in Khan’s last four fights. I actually had Khan losing that fight but it shows you how vulnerable Khan is that he couldn’t even beat a fighter like Diaz without controversy.

If Khan wins the fight, Golden Boy Promotions will look to match him up with WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. in early 2014.

Richard Schaefer, the CEO for Golden Boy, told the dailymail.co.uk “Amir needs one fight at welterweight along with a title to set up the match with Floyd…[Alexander] has agreed to the fight. We will be finalizing and signing the contract in the next couple of weeks…if he defeats Devon…the next step for him would be against Floyd.”
