Dillian Whyte: Looking Forward to December Anthony Joshua Clash

After both men came through their respective fights in style last night in London, new Commonwealth heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua and bitter rival Dillian Whyte, are all set to square off on December 12th at the O2 Arena.

Despite nursing a shoulder injury in his 3rd round stoppage of overmatched late notice opponent Brian Minto, the unbeaten Whyte confirmed that he will be fit for AJ, and the injury will not put the brakes on the big domestic showdown that will also be for the vacant British title.

Joshua and Whyte Get Heated at ‘Heavy Duty’ Presser / ‘Stop Being a Fake’

Provided they both come through their fights on Saturday night, against Gary Cornish and Brian Minto respectively, then unbeaten British heavyweight prospects Anthony Joshua and Dillian Whyte, will clash in London on December 12th for the British and Commonwealth heavyweight titles.

The eagerly anticipated dust-up between the old foes, largely stemming from an old amateur rivalry that saw Whyte beat Joshua in 2009, provided a taster of the bad blood to come at today’s presser to promote Saturday’s card, when Whyte told Joshua, ‘You’re getting hurt in December.”

Dillian Whyte: Fights Brian Minto on Saturday / Calls Anthony Joshua a Fake Ahead of Their December 12th Clash

Provided both men come through their respective fights this weekend against Gary Cornish and Brian Minto, then unbeaten British heavyweight rivals Anthony Joshua and Dillian Whyte will indeed definitely be fighting on December 12th at London’s O2 Arena.

However, one is tempted to feel a little sorry for Whyte, who since signing to fight the Olympic gold medalist – and after being promised two decent warm up’s in preparation by promoter Eddie Hearn – has almost been treated as an afterthought in terms of getting him solid opposition, with a thrown together late notice opponent of Dominick Guinn being switched again last week to lower tier 40 year old cruiserweight, Minto.

Boxing back on Sky Sports in the UK for the first time in a long time is bringing Dillian Whyte a whole new fan base keen to see the big hitting Brixton man square off against Anthony Joshua for the British heavyweight title in December.

Joshua boxes Scotland’s Gary Cornish for the vacant Commonwealth strap on September 12th and Whyte will feature on the undercard – certain that he needs a decent test after obliterating Irineu Costa Jnr within a round last weekend. Both New Zealand knockout artist Joseph Parker and the big-hitting David Price took longer to do the job against the Brazilian fighter.

Campbell destroys Coyle; Rose beats Jones; Burns and Whyte both win

WBC #15 lightweight contender Luke Campbell (12-0, 10 KOs) totally dominated Tommy Coyle (21-3, 12 KOs) in knocking him down four times en route to scoring a 10th round stoppage tonight at the Craven Park Stadium in Hull, UK. Coyle was hurt with a body shot in the 9th, and then finished off with three knockdowns in the 10th. Coyle continually attacked the bigger and stronger Campbell, but he didn’t have the punching power to worry him.

Dillian Whyte Returns to Action in Hull Tomorrow

British heavyweight contender Dillian Whyte returns to action tomorrow night in Hull for the first time since February, squaring off against Brazilian Irineu Costa Jnr on Matchroom’s “Rumble on the Humber” card ahead of his scheduled British title clash with old amatuer foe Anthony Joshua, which will take place in either November or December.

In the Land of the Heavyweights, the Brits Hold the Keys to the Kingdom

Once, more top heavy than Alice Eve, the heavyweight division is starting to develop some depth of talent that has also awakened an interest in the glamour division long bereft of such. Seemingly forever dominated by the name Klitschko, whether it be Vitali or Wladimir, there are new names and personalities appearing amongst the giants that don’t remind us of a robot manufacturer. One island nation known for their infatuation with the division, is leading the way developing excitement and talent north of 14 stone. By now you know I’m talking about the braggadocios Brits.

With the news of verbal sparring partners Anthony Joshua and Dillian Whyte agreeing to fight later this year, coupled with Tyson Fury battling the aforementioned Wladimir Klitschko for the heavyweight crown; it gives credence to the sentiment that the future and the present state of the division could fly under the Union Jack.

Dillian Whyte Unfazed By Anthony Joshua

Dillian Whyte Unfazed By Anthony Joshua

The hype surrounding big punching British heavyweight Anthony Joshua shows no signs of abating, with the debate and speculation surrounding his next potential opponent thriving across social media.

One name repeatedly linked to the knockout artist is Brixton heavyweight Dillian Whyte, who floored Joshua 6 years ago in their amateur days, en route to earning a scrappy points decision over four undisciplined rounds.

It was “The Villain’s” first amateur contest – and since that evening in 2009, the two men’s careers have gone in contrasting directions, yet now look set to come full circle later this year, possibly in September on Eddie Hearn’s O2 Arena show.
