EDDIE HEARN: When I saw Luis Arias fight on the Kovalev-Ward undercard, I thought ‘This is a guy that really excited me.’ He had plenty of charisma and he loves to fight and he could become a star on November 11. In the other corner a very determined Daniel Jacobs, trying to recapture the title and trying to pick up more championship belts and potentially unify the division. He’s a honest a kid if I ever saw one and since the press conference in New York Danny Jacobs has been extremely motivated. I believe that his team and certainly I and Roc Nation know all about the threat of Luis Arias and I think this is a great fight.
Eddie Hearn
Hearn targeting Dominic Breazeale to fight Dillian Whyte on Oct.28
Now that heavyweight Dominic Breazeale has had the rug pulled out from under him in his previously scheduled fight against Bermane Stiverne for November 4, Matchroom Sport promoter Eddie Hearn is counting on the 6’7” Breazeale to agree to a fight against #3 WBC Dillian Whyte (21-1, 16 KOs) on October 28 in Cardiff, Wales.
Wilder calls out Joshua but Hearn is firm; first up Pulev, then Ortiz, then Wilder next summer
Anthony Joshua fears no one and wants more than anything to unify the heavyweight titles. This is the mesage his promoter Eddie Hearn has given. Joshua, the WBA and IBF ruler, has been ordered to defend the former against Cuban Luis Ortiz, and he has been ordered to defend the latter against Bulgarian Kubrat Pulev.
Bellew-Haye II “Virtually Dead” says Hearn
Those fight fans who want, and have wanted since March, to see bitter British rivals Tony Bellew and David Haye fight a rematch will likely be disappointed. Though the two heavyweights engaged in talks after the March fight, won by Bellew in an upset, they have come to nothing; much to the chagrin of promoter Eddie Hearn.
Bellew, who stopped Haye late – this after the big favourite had severely damaged his Achilles, reduced as he was to basically a one-legged fighter – reportedly demanded the lion’s share of the purse going into a return, and Haye has not been forthcoming. This is one way to look at the collapse of the fight anyway.
Hearn on Anthony Joshua’s long-term plans: “We’ve got to go through everybody”
Promoter Eddie Hearn is thinking big and looking long-term with regards to his shining star, IBF/WBA heavyweight champ Anthony Joshua. While Hearn has already stated how he feels it will be Wladimir Klitschko in a rematch for AJ next, the plan is for the 27 year old Londoner who has caught the eye of everyone from Mike Tyson to George Foreman to “go through everybody.”
Amir Khan: I hope Kell Brook can win tonight; we could meet at Wembley
Amir Khan has arrived in Sheffield, a guest pundit for Sky Sports, and the former 140 pound king has said he gives a slight edge to his countryman and possible future rival Kell Brook over Errol Spence Junior. Khan, when asked who he wanted to win tonight, answered Brook.
Khan said he sees Brook winning “a very tough fight,” and that if he does so, he could then fight the IBF welterweight champ in what would be a huge British super-fight. But does Khan really, truly want to fight Brook? This question has been asked now for a few years, and still we have no definitive answer. Brook definitely wants the fight, calling “Queen” Khan out so many times as he has done. But for whatever reason or reasons, Khan has not agreed to terms and signed on for the fight.
Hearn wants Brook-Khan after Spence fight
British promoter Eddie Hearn appears to be counting his chicks before they’ve hatched with him talking up a much hoped for fight between his fighter IBF welterweight champion Kell “Special K” Brook (36-1, 25 KOs) and former light welterweight champion Amir “King” Khan (31-4, 19 KOs) for later this year in the UK if Brook can get past mandatory challenger Errol “The Truth” Spence Jr. (21-0, 18 KOs) tonight in their fight at Bramall Lane in Sheffield, England.
Hearn wants to see Deontay Wilder in “a real fight,” says Whyte would give him one
It seems everyone wants a piece of WBC heavyweight king Deontay Wilder. Wilder of course returns to action next month, when he will face huge underdog Andrzej Wawrzyk of Poland in Alabama on February 25. But after that, Wilder should take a “real fight,” so says British promoter Eddie Hearn.
Speaking with Sky Sports, Hearn said he very much wants to see Wilder, 37-0(36) face his fighter, once-beaten, top-10 WBC contender Dillian Whyte this May. Whyte recently relinquished the British heavyweight title so as to fully commit himself to his dream of ruling the world – and Hearn said Whyte should get a shot at Wilder.
Hearn has “reached out” to Arum regarding Brook-Pacquiao fight; suggests Brook will stay at 147
It seems Kell Brook will remain at welterweight, where he of course holds the IBF crown. It had been assumed by many that Brook would vacate his welterweight belt having bulked up to middleweight for his unsuccessful challenge of world champ Gennady Golovkin in September. Brook himself said many times how he felt so much stronger as a 160-pounder, having avoided “killing myself” to make 147.
But now, promoter Eddie Hearn has revealed how he has “reached out” to Top Rank head Bob Arum with regards to a possible Brook-Manny Pacquiao unification fight. Hearn, in speaking with The Daily Mail, also mentioned Brook’s mandatory challenger, Errol Spence Jnr.
Hearn says Joshua cannot afford to give Molina less than 100-percent of his attention; won’t even think about Klitschko mega-fight until Dec 10 is done
Eddie Hearn has said whilst speaking with Kugan Cassius of IFILM TV that the response to the recently announced Anthony Joshua-Eric Molina fight has been “lukewarm” in the UK, although better in the US, where Molina, 25-3(19) is of course far better known. Hearn said he has once again heard the moans and groans regarding why the December 10 fight, and it’s card, will be pay-per-view on Sky Box Office.
