Anticipation before any fight is in many ways the most vital component of boxing as without it, the boxing fans simply can’t buy into it. A simple fact of boxing is that without hype, boxing isn’t the prize fighting, Vegas headlining super sport that we know and love. Boxing needs excitement!

One thing we have seen is that over in Britain, boxing has got exciting again. Maybe not Rumble-in-the-Jungle exciting, but exciting in captivating a new younger audience, exciting in seeing week-in week-out big fights, exciting in seeing a depth of quality in undercards and exciting in that fighters are being marketed better than ever before.

De La Hoya outlines plans for Canelo: one more fight this year, one on Cinco de Mayo 2017, then GGG

Oscar De La Hoya is of course confident his fighter, Mexican superstar Saul Canelo Alvarez will emerge victorious in his upcoming 154-pound WBO title challenge of a very live underdog indeed in Liam Smith, and Oscar has laid out his plans for Canelo for after the September 17 figh. Speaking with HBO in a piece to promote the Smith fight in Texas, De La Hoya said Alvarez will continue his ascension to the middleweight division he says he will move up to on a full time basis only when his body is ready.

“We envision Canelo doing a third fight in 2016 either at or close to the middleweight limit and then a fight on Cinco de Mayo at 160 before facing Golovkin in the fall. I know Canelo-Golovkin is the biggest fight to make; the fighters know it’s the biggest fight to make and the fans know it’s the biggest fight to make. I have been clear that Canelo will fight Golovkin at 160-pounds and we have a verbal agreement to do it in the fall of 2017. But in the meantime, Canelo is going to build up to being a true middleweight.”

Eddie Hearn: Maybe I’m clutching at straws, but I thought GGG looked a little bit drawn

Today in London, Gennady Golovkin and Kell Brook came together for the final press conference ahead of Saturday night’s big fight, and Brook’s promoter Eddie Hearn came away with a little bit of added confidence, due to how he felt Golovkin looked physically. Brook, as fans know, is looking great: “massive, strong and serious,” in the words of Golovkin himself. But Hearn, in speaking with Sky Sports after the press conference had come to an end, said he felt GGG did not look great; in fact, Hearn said his personal opinion is that Triple-G might have struggled a little in getting his weight down to 160.

Retired former super-middleweight king and current Sky Sports pundit Carl Froch has weighed-in with his thoughts on this Saturday’s massively intriguing Gennady Golovkin-Kell Brook fight and, though Froch does not go so far as to say his countryman will get the win, he does say that unbeaten pound-for-pound star GGG is in for the “toughest fight of his career so far.”

Froch sparred an up and coming Book back in 2009, as he was getting ready to fight Andre Direll in the “Super-Six” tournament, and though the spar was a long time ago, Froch remembers it well and feels that the problems he had nailing Brook, and avoiding his right hand, could be obstacles GGG has trouble with also.

Weight a minute!….GGG says Brook is looking “huge;” expects an “interesting” fight

Weight, size, and size again. These have been two of the big talking points ahead of the big fight that is now just five days away: Gennady Golovkin Vs. Kell Brook. Initially, when the fight was first (shockingly) announced, to the, well, shock of practically everyone, the cry was, ‘Oh, Brook is a welterweight! He is too small for GGG.’ Well, since then, and as a result of some serious training, IBF 147-pound champ Brook has bulked up to middleweight – actually tipping-in at 167-pounds at last week’s check-weight.

This change to Brook’s physique has forced some fans (mostly British fans, it must be said) to change their opinion on the big fight. Brook himself has said a number of times that fans, and GGG, will be shocked and surprised by his size and strength on fight night. And today, when speaking with Sky Sports, the undefeated middleweight king said himself how impressed he is with Brook’s physical appearance.
