The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
Even mentioning that Title ‘The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly’ makes that Sergio Leone theme music begin playing in my head. But here, I’m actually going to point out, in this order, some of The Ugly, The Bad and The Good of Boxing. Since the world seems to be so screwed up lately, I do want to end on a positive note as hard as that seems sometimes.
First, the Ugly:
‘It’s Not Just About the Power’ says David Lemieux
Whatever happens this Saturday at Madison Square Garden, IBF middleweight champion David Lemieux, will receive huge credit for signing to fight dominant WBA boss Gennady Golovkin, and nominating to sign for a dangerous unification immediately after winning his IBF crown against Hassan N’Dam, rather than take a couple of ‘soft’ voluntary defences first.
The Canadian star claims he has had the best camp of his career in the build up and is more than comfortable with the underdog tag he’s been branded with, claiming that when the upset comes, it will make victory all the sweeter.

Gennady Golovkin / Abel Sanchez Interview
ABEL SANCHEZ: Good morning, everybody. We are extremely happy to be part of this epic event. I think it’s about time that promoters and managers and fighters put their records on the line, put their belt on the line, and the best fight the best, and I’m glad that Tom is the kind of promoter for Gennady that’s going to endorse everybody and Oscar being the same way, so we’re finally going to see a fight that the fans have been waiting to see, the kind of fight that the fans have been waiting to see.
David Lemieux / De La Hoya Interview
DAVID LEMIEUX: It’s been a great camp. It’s been a great — it’s been a great training. Everything has been on spot. Never had a more complete camp than this. I have been pushing myself to the maximum with each training, with each exercise, with everything envisioning the big day ahead of me, October 17th, so I did everything I had to do to make sure I have no regrets October 17th, because the plan is to walk out of that — out of Madison Square Garden with those belts and hopefully without a broken nose (Chuckles.)
Gennady Golovkin: ‘I Will Beat Any Style’ Including Lemieux’s
Ahead of his hotly anticipated Oct 17 middleweight unification with IBF champion David Lemieux, murderous punching WBA (sup) champion Gennady Golovkin, has stated it doesn’t matter what style is presented to him, he can beat them all.
Fans are expecting fireworks from the two massive punchers’ when they meet at Madison Square Garden on HBO PPV, with Golovkin stating that he believes he is the more complete fighter and will be able to adapt to the aggressive, swarming style of Lemieux, before gradually overcoming it.
Golovkin: Lemieux is acting like a star
Boxing Superstar and WBA, IBO and WBC “Interim” Middleweight Champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin, (33-0, 30KOs), Four-Time World Champion in two weight divisions, Brian “The Hawaiian Punch” Viloria, (36-4 (22KOs) and top junior welterweight prospect Ruslan Madiyev, 5-1-0 (3KOs) held media workouts for a huge gathering of local press on Tuesday afternoon at the Wild Card West Boxing Gym in Santa Monica, California.
Ward Is a ‘Liar’ Who Is Using Gennady’s Name to be Relevant says Abel Sanchez
He fights David Lemieux in New York later this month, yet Gennady Golovkin’s trainer Abel Sanchez has refused outright the notion that the team collectively turned down a fight with California’s Andre Ward at 168lbs, insisting that the Oakland based “Son of God” is nothing more than a liar out to stay relevant by using Golovkin’s name.
WBA (sup) 168 lb champion Ward, who has been struggling to meet the super-middleweight limit in recent times, returned in June at a 172lb catch-weight against Britain’s Paul Smith and had recently referred to Golovkin as “Little-g” in the media, claiming the destructive middleweight champ wanted no part of fighting him – a notion Sanchez angrily refutes.
Lemieux Will Make GGG Uncomfortable says Hopkins
Golden Boy’s future Hall of Famer, Bernard Hopkins, is predicting that their fighter – IBF 160lb champion David Lemieux – has the necessary tools to make Kazakh knockout artist Gennady Golovkin truly uncomfortable when the two big punchers clash in their huge HBO PPV unification fight on October 17th at Madison Square Garden.
Speaking via fighthubtv, Hopkins – who intends to fight on himself in pursuit of a 168 lb world title of his own – said of his fighter and what they expect on the night.
