Boxing superstar GENNADY “GGG” GOLOVKIN was a huge hit Sunday night at the 2015 Emmy Awards where numerous celebrities and international stars greeted him and wished him well in his upcoming fight.

Among the well-wishers was Dave Grohl, leader of the Foo Fighters who was in attendance on behalf of their outstanding HBO Documentary Series, “Sonic Highways.”

“It was great to meet Dave in person and I look forward to seeing the Foo Fighters in one of their upcoming concerts,” said Golovkin.

California based trainer Robert Garcia has weighed in on the issue of the vacancy left at the top of the sport by Floyd Mayweather’s retirement, picking Mexican 154 lb star ‘Canelo’ Alvarez and murderous punching middleweight Gennady Golovkin as those best placed to take over “Money’s” mantle as boxing’s biggest star.

Speaking to fighthype.com from his Oxnard training base, Garcia also predicted that his younger brother Mikey could also start troubling the upper echelons of the P4P rankings when he eventually returns to action.

Recently you witnessed hopefully what was the last fight of Floyd Mayweather Jr’s career. I did not buy it. Time and money are valuable, so I am careful how I spend both. For me Mayweather’s fights have not been worth my money or time for a very long while.

Happy Days might be here again… if he stays retired.

Happy Days because finally the Boxing Press and sports media in general will be forced to focus on one of the other Pound 4 Pound best fighters, who are far more entertaining in the ring than Mayweather has been for many years.

With comebacks, retirements and long awaited fights, the last 12 months of boxing have seen significant changes in the pound-for-pound rankings. Just as significantly, some things have not changed at all.

Most notably, Floyd Mayweather Jr. did the only thing he could do to further enhance his reputation as the best boxer in the world today by beating long touted rival Manny Pacquaio. What this means for Mayweather is clear but where this leaves Pacquaio is disputable.
