Does Willie Monroe Jr. even have a chance against Gennady Golovkin?

Gennady Gennadyevich Golovkin, better known as Triple G, has become a boxing star. His aggressive, drama show style, has sparked the interests of even casual boxing fans.

The way he stalks his opponents, is how you would expect a lion to walk down a gazelle, if it were caught in a 24 x 24 cage. There is no awkward tension, but instead a relaxed predator that knows he is in complete control. Who wouldn’t be entertained by such a show of pugilism?

There are however skeptics, that will bring up the burning question, who has he fought?

“Left-Hook Lounge Mailbag”: Would GGG Face Kovalev?, Mayweather Crossing Lines?, Rigondeaux in Pacquiao Camp?

"Left-Hook Lounge Mailbag": Would GGG Face Kovalev?, Mayweather Crossing Lines?, Rigondeaux in Pacquiao Camp?

Ensei L. (Ontario, CA): I’m a huge GGG fan and looking at Kovalev, I couldn’t help but think about how great a matchup would be between the two. Do you ever see that fight happening down the line?

Vivek W. (ESB): As much as I would love to see that fight, I have very little hope that we will ever see it. It’s one of those topics that really challenges me, personally. You never want to take a negative or harsh disposition towards an emerging talent in the sport, but when you look at the negative narratives that follow proven commodities in the sport, contrasted by images drawn up to illustrate perceptions of those who aren’t, it’s just not proper. When I think of a Danny Garcia, or an Andre Ward, there’s a consistent rhetoric that almost mandates that they take on a certain level of competition or be banished to hell for not “proving themselves”.

Peter Quillin: Golovkin and I is like ‘Manny Pacquiao vs Floyd Mayweather’

In an interview with FightHype, former middleweight strap holder Peter Quillin compared a potential fight between himself and Gennady Golovkin to the superfight coming in May between Floyd and Pacquiao. What I take away from this is the fact that it would be two of the top guys in one weight class going into a hyped up bout and generating a lot of money at the same time. The comparisons pretty much end there because the past accomplishments of those guys to these middleweights cannot be compared and the scale of the fight certainly cannot either.

Brandon Rios and Robert Garcia: GGG beats Quillin and Cotto

Brandon Rios and Robert Garcia: GGG beats Quillin and Cotto

In an interview with ESNEWS, top fighter Brandon Rios and his trainer Robert Garcia discussed the man at 160 lbs Gennady Golovkin. The first topic discussed was a matchup between Peter Quillin and Golovkin which prompted both Garcia and Rios to immediately go with Golovkin. Garcia then said that he had watched a lot of GGG’s recent performances and was impressed with his coordination and power, but saw that he was hittable and wondered how he would do against some of the better middleweights in the past. Rios also mentioned that he rated Martin Murray highly for taking his shots and putting in an impressive performance against Golovkin.

Ken – the father of Shawn Porter gives his top list for Golovkin opponents

Ken Porter started out the interview by saying that ‘we’ have some guys that could beat triple G. He explained by ‘we’ he meant American talents and then discussed a few potential names which could accomplish that kind of feat.
The first names he mentioned were fighters currently campaigning at 168lbs. Andre and his brother Anthony Dirrell. These are certainly two talented fighters, but aside from the fact they are not currently at Golovkins weight, I do not think they are big enough names to be on his radar. Golovkin and his team have said that they will move down to 154 for Mayweather, or up to 168 for a big fight, but when they said big fight I assumed they meant someone like Carl Froch or Andre Ward. Those names are the type which would raise his stock and expand his fan base. Whilst the Dirrells are talented boxers, do they really have the name associated with making the best fights in the world?

Gabriel Rosado on Golovkin – ‘I think he got a little exposed’

Gabriel Rosado on Golovkin – ‘I think he got a little exposed’

In a FightHype interview with tough fighter Gabriel Rosado, Gabe gave a lot of respect to the efforts of Martin Murray. The basic takeaway of the interview was that he thought if a top fighter could take the gameplan laid down by Murray and his team and execute it better, they could beat Golovkin. Basically the blueprint on beating him was there, it would just take an extraordinary talent to be able to pull it off. Rosado then commented saying that someone like Canelo could give Golovkin problems if a similar strategy was employed.

Gabriel Rosado will be involved in a good bout soon with former Golovkin victim Curtis Stevens, however this fight will not be happening in a boxing ring.

Left-Hook Lounge Mailbag: Mayweather vs Pacquiao Drama Narrowed Down, Golovkin's Next Move

Casey C. (Daytona, FL): I’m stoked that the sport is finally getting the Mayweather vs Pacquiao fight, but now that it’s official, can you give your thoughts on this whole saga, as it relates to which stories you think will play the biggest role in the outcome and give your personal opinion on the road we’ve traveled to get to this point?

Vivek W. (ESB): Honestly, despite us being days beyond the announcement, it’s still a bit surreal in my mind. When you look back at the controversy and the negativity that came as a result of that controversy, it’s just a beautiful feeling to know that this long road has basically come to an end. The constant allegations of “ducking” and so forth; those narratives all must give way to the prevailing one. Which is the fact that the fight is now official and the time (to rumble) has come.
