Macklin predicts Golovkin vs Adama live on BoxNation

Macklin predicts Golovkin vs Adama live on BoxNation

BoxNation subscribers get a chance to assess whether Kazakh crusher Gennady Golovkin is the most explosive puncher presently active in boxing – as many experts are suggesting – when he makes a ninth defence of his WBA World Middleweight crown live on the Channel of Champions this Saturday evening.

‘Golden Gennady’, 31, has knocked-out 25 of his 28 pro opponents – including each of his last 15 – inside the scheduled distance and, eager to secure the superfights that will vault him among the sport’s biggest earners, he’ll be hoping to extend the streak against tough Ghanaian Osumanu Adama at the Salle des etoiles Monte Carlo.

The 33 year old African challenger, known as ‘Machine Gun’, lasted the full 12 round trip in an abortive IBF challenge to Australia’s Daniel Geale in March 2012 and boasts a stoppage victory over Russia’s Roman Karmazin, a former IBF light-middle titlist. Therefore, expect him to take some shifting.

Sanchez wants Sergio Martinez and Quillin for Golovkin

golovkin78483Trainer Abel Sanchez doesn’t understand why WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez (51-2-2, 28 KO’s) and WBO champion Peter Quillin (30-0, 22 KO’s) aren’t trying to fight his guy WBA champion Gennady Golovkin (28-0, 25 KO’s) to prove who the best guy is in the division. Sanchez feels that the excuses that Quillin and Sergio have been making for why they can’t fight Golovkin are pretty weak ones. He feels that they should be willing to step up and take the challenge against Golovkin rather than play it safe against other opponents.

“Peter Quillin stands behind the network [HBO vs. Showtime] right now,” Sanchez said to the Boxing Channel. “If he really wants to prove he’s the best, we’re willing to fight him.

Golovkin vs. Kirkland possible for April on HBO

kirkland644An interesting match-up between WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (28-0, 25 KO’s) and the junior middleweight slugger James Kirkland (32-1, 28 KO’s) is being talked about for next April on HBO, says HBO President of Sports Ken Hershman via ESPN. Golovkin has a stay busy fight against fringe contender Osumanu Adama (22-3, 16 KO’s) on February 1st in Monte Carlo, Monaco.

After that mismatch out of the way, Golovkin plans on getting back in the ring quickly within just 2 months to fight on HBO in April.

Kirkland, 29, kind of revived his career with his 6th round TKO win over previously unbeaten Top Rank fighter Glen Tapia earlier this month in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

Carl Froch or GGG: Who Would Make More Sense For Ward To Face Next?

froch673When it comes to leaving no doubt in the eyes of the boxing press and the fans, ‘Son Of God’ is a virtuoso. Being a second best pound-for-pound fighter in the world, Andre Ward has to not only sweat bullets when it comes to training, but perform in a way that suggests his absolute dominance from bell to bell.

Yesterday, after the longest layoff in his career paired with a shoulder surgery, Andre Ward left his ring rust at home, dominating the previously unbeaten Edwin Rodriguez in a fashion that proves his ownership of being a true pound-for-pound champion, dictating that Ward is a force that just might plow through the rest of the top rated competition in a similar fashion.

Why me?

golovkin433I’ve seen Gennady Golovkin fight about 6 times. Each time I’ve watched him on television (on 4 of the 6 occasions), Golovkin has been spectacular. I go to see this guy fight live twice, and while the results were great for Golovkin, I feel like I got the short end of the stick. WHY ME?

Let me explain…

The first fight I saw on television was Golovkin vs. Mikhail Makarov. Gennady pretty much took Makarov’s heart in this fight and won in the second round. A straight right dropped Makarov in the second. The punch was hard and Makarov backed up and took a knee. He got up and went on the attack. Gennady took his time and threw another well-placed right hand and Makarov went down and the fight was over. Makarov got up and kept wiping his face as if he was making sure his nose was still attached. KO-2

Golovkin Retains WBA Strap with Win over Stevens

golovkin451On Saturday night, Gennady Golovkin defeated Curtis Stevens in front of nearly 5,000 fans at the Theater in Madison Square Garden. Golovkin won by TKO as Stevens’ uncle and trainer Andre Rozier stopped the fight after round eight. The victory takes “Triple G’s” record to 28-0 (25 KOs), while Stevens falls to 25-4 (18 KOs).

“I give myself a grade of 10,” Golovkin said after the fight. “I am ready to fight anybody, but specifically I want to fight Sergio Martinez.”

Gennady, I’ve got news for you. We want you to fight Martinez too. Golovkin already has a February 1, 2014 fight date set in Monte Carlo. No doubt he won’t get Martinez on that date, as Sergio’s team is trying to lock up a fight with Miguel Cotto.

Golovkin willing to drop to 154 for Mayweather

golovkin7Abel Sanchez, the trainer for WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (28-0, 25 KO’s), says that Golovkin is the best fight for the 36-year-old Floyd Mayweather Jr. if he wants to keep getting the kinds of money that he made in his last bout against WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez last September. Sanchez says that Golovkin is willing to drop down in weight from 160 to face Mayweather Jr. at 154 if he’s agreeable to taking the fight.

Sanchez said to Hustleboss.com “I think that Golovkin is really the only name out there that is gonna give him the kind of payday that he had in his last bout with Canelo. There’s nobody on the horizon who’s gonna give him a 40 or 50 million dollar payday and if Golovkin is the guy, then we’re willing to go down to 154.”
