Results: DeGale-Jack fight to draw

James DeGale and Badou Jack fought their hearts out tonight in a unification fight at 168, but the two of them had to leave the ring after fighting to a 12 round draw at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Both guys hit the canvas in the round. WBC super middleweight champion Jack was down in the 1st round from a left to the head.

IBF champion DeGale was blasted to the canvas in the 12th round by a right uppercut from Jack. DeGale (23-1-1, 14 KOs) got away with spitting his mouthpiece out 4 times in the fight during crucial periods where he was hurt or getting pounded by Badou (20-1-3, 12 KOs).

Boxing fans will remember 2016 for a year of exciting fights, if not all of the ones we wanted to see.

The two boxers that came out of 2015 with the biggest wins – Floyd Mayweather and Tyson Fury – did not fight in 2016 at all. Gennady Golovkin continued his devastating reign as middleweight king without fighting any of the division’s top names (at no fault of his own), whilst great champions like Manny Pacquaio and Roman Gonzalez continued to rule, if not in the same manner they once did. Andre Ward and Sergey Kovalev did clash in a true battle of modern greats, but who is the better of the two is even less settled than it was before they fought. All in all, although a lot happened in boxing in 2016, not a lot changed.

Baltimore, MD — Unbeaten super featherweight prospect Gervonta “Tank” Davis (14-0, 13 KOs) held a public workout on Wednesday at the Upton Boxing Center in Baltimore in preparation for his April 1 bout at the D.C. Armory against Guillermo “El Borrego” Avila (16-5, 13 KOs). Although the 21-year-old Davis is eager to test his skills against Avila, the Baltimore native admits that he doesn’t know a lot about his impending foe. “I just know he’s a strong, step-up opponent,” said Davis. “I just hope he’s ready because I’ll be ready on April 1^st.”

Featherweight Prospect Gervonta Davis Looks to Be Role Model

Its not easy growing up in the city of Baltimore. Baltimore city has long been crime ridden and drug infested. When Gervonta Davis got into an altercation at the early age of 5 years old his uncle decided he didn’t want Davis to take the wrong path that would be sure to leave him dead or locked up. He took Davis to Upton Boxing Center where he met coach Calvin Ford who was the inspiration for the character Dennis “Cutty” Wise on the hit HBO show The Wire. Coach Calvin as he is known in the gym saw great potential in Davis at a very young age and together they embarked on a amateur career that spawned many belts and national championships. Gervonta finished his amateur career with an outstanding record of 206-15.

Al Haymon has signed Baltimore prospect Gervonta Davis 6-0-(6KOs). Davis had a phenomenal amateur career with 206 wins and 15 losses. He is one of the most promising prospects coming from the baltimore area. The city hasn’t had a known champion since Hasim Rahman shocked Lennox Lewis in 2001 for the heavyweight title. Davis trains out of Upton Boxing Gym with trainer Calvin Ford. Calvin was the real life inspiration for the character Dennis “Cutty” Wise from HBO hit show “The Wire”.
