Ahmed who goes into his first professional fight outside of Ghana, tilted the scales at 166.75 lbs to the 168 lbs of Ramirez who even needed to strip naked before making the limit at their weigh-in on Friday at the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi, Texas, same venue for the fight itself on Saturday night live on ESPN.

WBO featherweight champion Oscar Valdez (22-0, 19 KOs) had his worst performance of his career in having to battle doubly hard to win a 12 round unanimous decision over Miguel Marriaga (25-2, 21 KOs) last Saturday night at the SubHub Center in Carson, California. The fight was shown on Top Rank PPV.

Latest Mexican star in the making, Gilberto Ramirez, the WBO super-middleweight champion, has what it takes to become a pay-per-view star – so says his promoter Bob Arum. Arum, speaking with Yahoo! Sports, said he believes the unbeaten 25 year-old can defeat feared middleweight king Gennady Golovkin, if GGG moves up from 160 to 168 to tackle Ramirez, and that such a win would make “Zurdo,” as Ramirez is known, a genuine box-office attraction.

The unbeaten 24-year-old shut-out tough old warrior Arthur Abraham over 12-rounds on the Pac-Man-Bradley card in Las Vegas. A fine talent who had been groomed for championship level and for stardom, the tall, 6’2.5”, southpaw improved to 34-0(24) and he stated after his commanding win how he is open to fighting “anybody” in the near future.
