GGG Intends To Be Ringside For Cotto v Geale

GGG Intends To Be Ringside For Cotto v Geale

It could well be more bad news for Miguel Cotto ahead of this weekend’s WBC middleweight clash with Australia’s Daniel Geale, as his mandatory challenger, Kazakh wrecking machine Gennady Golovkin plans on making an appearance at the fight – ostensibly to force the Puerto Rican into facing up to his mandatory responsibilities.

Golovkin, who last month beat Willie Monroe Jr into submission with his power punching has told fighthype.com

“I want to watch this fight in person and look forward to fighting the winner to show who the real WBC middleweight champion is.”

Cotto: No Worries Ahead of Geale/Not Looking Past Him

WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto steps in against Australia’s former world champion Daniel Geale on Saturday in New York – and during media sessions has spoken to fighthype.com to suggest he is not bothered by the potential size and reach advantages Geale – a proper 160lb fighter – will possess come the night.

The fight is being held at a catchweight of 157lb and much has been made of rehydration, particularly by promoter Gary Shaw, who has suggested Geale could weigh as much as 175lb – light heavyweight – when he steps between the ropes to face the far smaller Puerto Rican.

Cotto Will Stop Geale Says Freddie Roach

Cotto Will Stop Geale Says Freddie Roach

Ahead of his fighter’s June 6th defence of the WBC 160lb belt he won last year against an injured Sergio Martinez – Freddie Roach has spoken to fighthype.com regarding the outcome of the catchweight contest between Miguel Cotto & Daniel Geale – predicting that despite the significant height, reach and rehydration weight advantages the Aussie is going to have – his man can stop the former 3x world champion in the 8th or 9th rounds.

There has been fierce media criticism of Cotto for seemingly refusing to fight mandatory challenger – Kazakh wrecking machine Gennady Golovkin – yet Roach claims it was he who picked Geale as the opponent for Cotto and thus, surely accepts part of the responsibility?

Cotto Facing A Tough Ask In A Bigger, Mobile Geale

Cotto Facing A Tough Ask In A Bigger, Mobile Geale

If I was WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (39-4, 32ko), I might be a slightly worried man right now.

The four weight world champ makes the first defence of the title he won against a crocked Sergio Martinez on June 6th, when he steps in with the extremely capable former 3x world 160lb champ – Australia’s Daniel Geale (31-3, 16ko).

And that isn’t the only problem for Cotto, who has yet to genuinely box at 160lb and is making his first appearance in exactly a year at another catchweight – this time 157 lbs.

Miguel Cotto’s Next Fight

Miguel Cotto, the first and only boxer from Puerto Rico to win titles in four weight classes will be announcing his next fight sometime this coming week. Cotto once made the comment: “I am Miguel Cotto and I will fight anyone”. He backed up his words by taking on fighters such as Judah, Margarito, Mosley, Pacquiao and so on. Some of the fighters Cottto took on were actually avoided by fighters who are so called the greatest ever. One fight that Cotto deserves credit for was when he fought Margarito for the first time. Even though he lost the fight via TKO, many believe it was due to the use of allegedly plastered gloves that Margarito was later accused of using.

Abel Sanchez – Canelo doesn’t last 8, Cotto won’t go 5 with GGG

Abel Sanchez, the trainer for rising star and long time champ Gennady Golovkin has a lot of words for his fighter when discussing the biggest fights in the sport. This interview took place just prior to the Murray fight and Sanchez was saying it would be good for Golovkin to go the full 12 in preparation for these super fights. That fight ended up going 11 rounds, which is the longest of Golovkins career and if Sanchez is correct in his estimates then Murray lasted longer than either Cotto or Alvarez would.

I do see where Sanchez is coming from with these statements.

Miguel Cotto to fight Timothy Bradley if Mayweather fights Pacquaio

Miguel Cotto to fight Timothy Bradley if Mayweather fights Pacquaio

Several corroborating sources have now said that Miguel Cotto is likely to fight former welterweight champion Timothy Bradley. It is widely believed that May 2nd will host the rematch between Floyd Mayweather and Miguel Cotto for Mayweathers sixth weight class world title. Not a lot of fans are putting faith in the boxing forces being able to successfully negotiate a fight between Mayweather and Pacquaio and this is the most likely scenario to take place.

However if for some reason Cotto and Mayweather do not end up fighting we could see Timothy Bradley moving up in weight again. Cotto has a lot of negotiating power amongst all of the big names as he is a four weight world champion with a storied career and a large fan base in Peurto Rico. Although he has come up short against Mayweather and Pacquiao due to his big name it wouldn’t be unlikely to see rematches of both of those fights at some point.
