High-level operators square-off this Saturday night live on HBO, when Vasyl Lomachenko and Nicholas Walters meet at the Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas. The Ukrainian native puts his 130lb title on the line but the meaning of this fight goes much deeper. It’s a chance for Vasyl to prove himself worthy of the heaps of high-praises bestowed upon him from the boxing world. Many media members and fight fans alike already rank Lomachenko as a top-5 pound for pound fighter based of the eye-test along with two solid wins against Gary Russell Jr. and Rocky Martinez. It also gives redemption to those who are in the wait-and-see crowd having witnessed enough weaknesses in a split-decision loss to Orlando Salido.

Vasyl Lomachenko-Manny Pacquiao: too big a leap for Lomachenko or the end for Pac-Man?

Promoter Bob Arum is hugely excited about Vasyl Lomachenko, the incredibly talented former amateur sensation (perhaps one of the greatest amateur boxers in history at 396-1). Arum, who has seen it all in boxing over his almost 90 years, remains enthusiastic about the sport because of special fighters that come his way – and Arum says Lomachenko is very special.

Indeed, the Top Rank boss recently said Lomachenko is the best he’s seen in the sport since the incomparable Muhammad Ali. Arum has big plans for the reigning WBO super-featherweight champion. At just 6-1 and already a two-weight champion, the slick and wickedly powerful southpaw is a future superstar, says Arum. This Saturday’s defence against puncher Nicholas Walters could be looked at as a risky assignment for “Hi-Tech,” as Lomachenko is known, but it would be a massive upset if “The Axe Man” scored a win.

Vasyl Lomachenko set to return in November, Nicholas Walters, Jezreel Corrales possible foes

Vasyl Lomachenko, one of the hottest, most supremely talented fighters on the scene today – one of the best fighters he has ever worked with according to Top Rank boss Bob Arum – is set to return to action in Las Vegas on November 26. According to a piece by The Las Vegas Review-Journal, Arum said on Saturday that the reigning WBO 130-pound ruler will fight at The Cosmopolitan with his opponent still to be officially confirmed.

But there are two likely contenders for the shot: Nicholas Walters and Jezreel Corrales. Either of these two, both good, capable fighters, would be decent enough for Lomachenko – who at 6-1(4) has to be THE finest 6-1 fighter in boxing history – but neither guy figures to defeat the Ukrainian sensation. Last time out, in June, Lomachenko scored an absolutely devastating KO over Roman Martinez, in many peoples’ pick for KO of The Year.
