As fans everywhere know, the demand for Canelo, the lineal middleweight champion of the world, to fight Gennady Golovkin, the interim WBC and reigning IBF and WBA 160-pound king, is at a fever pitch right now. Rematch clause for Canelo-Khan, but De La Hoya says “believe me” Canelo-Golovkin “will happen very soon.”

If Britain’s Amir Khan, who has never boxed above the welterweight limit before, manages to upset middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez in May, the former 140-pound champ will have to do it all over again. The Mexican’s promoter Oscar De La Hoya, perhaps edging too far on the side of caution, insisted on a rematch clause just in case Khan pulls off the upset of the year on May 7th.

Golovkin no fan of Canelo-Khan clash, says “[Canelo] will knock the hell out of him.”

Middleweight star and, in the opinion of many, the best 160-pounder fighting today, Gennady Golovkin was talking to the press yesterday, ostensibly about his upcoming April defence against the unbeaten but largely unknown Dominic Wade (who didn’t even turn up at the press conference in L.A) but talk was always destined to turn to another, bigger fight: GGG Vs. Canelo Alvarez.

As Lance Pugmire of The Los Angeles Times reports, GGG was asked about Canelo and his desire to fight the Mexican star, as well as being asked his opinion on the Canelo-Khan fight set for May. Golovkin does not agree with those people who are sufficiently intrigued by the May 7th catch-weight fight to give Khan and his speed a chance of winning.

Canelo vs. Khan: A great fight!

Canelo vs. Khan: A great fight!

Robert Uzzell: I can’t tell you the comments I’ve read on Twitter, Facebook, and other boxing webpages crucifying Saul “Canelo” Alvarez. A catchweight, lineal middleweight title fight (155 pounds) has Canelo stepping into the ring to defend against Amir “King” Khan. Fans are furious at Alvarez (46-1-1, 32 KOs) for “cherry-picking” a much smaller Amir Khan (31-3, 19 KOs) who has only fought at welterweight twice. They say this is a complete mismatch and an easy win for Canelo. ‘NOT SO FAST MY FRIEND!’ (in my Lee Corso voice).
