Wow! Tonight at a sold-out O2 in the heart of London, British boxing witnessed one hell of an amazing, even crazy fight. The result: Bellew TKO 11 Haye, doesn’t come anywhere near close to telling the full story.

Haye, who suffered a terrible injury to his right ankle (or Achilles; we must await a full explanation) in the 6th round, was basically a one-legged fighter from the 6th on – yet he refused to quit! Bellew blazed away, scoring a knockdown, the end seemingly not far away, but instead Haye gutted it up like never before in his career and the two went to war in incredible fashion.

At one point quite recently it looked as though Shannon Briggs would fight David Haye, but tomorrow night the former heavyweight champ will be merely an interested observer as Haye fights Tony Bellew in their intense grudge-match. Now just think about that for a second. After all the hype, the ward of words and the entertaining press conferences, it would be a massive blow if Saturday’s David Haye-Tony Bellew fight got called off. Believe it or not, there is apparently a chance that this will actually be the case. A story broke this morning regarding Haye suffering an injured Achilles tendon.

Haye flew out to see his German doctor, Hans-Wilhelm Muller-Wohlfahrt yesterday, to have his Achilles checked out. When this was revealed, a number of publications and web sites jumped on the story, suggesting Saturday’s fight was in jeopardy. And of course Haye has form; having pulled out of a few fights due to injury – sometimes at the eleventh hour. But, in speaking with ESPN.com, Bellew’s promoter Eddie Hearn said that the fight will take place and that he knew about Haye’s Achilles problem weeks ago.

David Haye, by his own admission, has a genuine and thorough dislike for Tony Bellew, the man he will fight this Saturday night in London, and the nasty pre-fight words Haye has aimed at his rival have now got him in trouble. The British Boxing Board will “be speaking with him this week,” and Haye could face a sanction as a result of his vicious comments.

For whatever reason, or reasons, Bellew has got under Haye’s skin far more than any previous opponents of the former WBA heavyweight champ managed to do (part of Bellew’s plan all along?) and Haye has gone too far with his pre-fight promise to “hospitalise” Bellew, to end his career and to “do serious damage to his head.”
