New lineal heavyweight champion, Tyson Fury, has stated that his dethroning of dominant former champion, Wladimir Klitschko, was a moment a long time in coming, going on to say that the Ukrainian was ‘forced into’ the fight, and had been avoiding him for ‘a long time.’

Speaking at today’s homecoming press conference in Bolton, Fury was greeted by jubilant fans keen to share the moment with the new WBO/WBA/IBF titlist, telling his captive audience how the 39 year-old Klitschko had known all along what was coming to him, even if everybody else outside of his immediate team didn’t believe it.

Tyson Fury scored the biggest upset of the year as he dethroned Wladimir Klitschko’s dominate ten-year reign as the best fighter in the heavyweight division, en route to a twelve round, unanimous decision by two scores of 115-112 and one score of 116-111, at the Esprit Arena in Dusseldorf, Germany, in front of 55,000 mostly pro-Klitschko fans. Fury improved to 25-0, 18 KOs and with the victory, gained the IBO, WBA, IBF, and WBO world title belts. Klitschko dropped to 64-4, 53 KOs and lost for the first time in 23 bouts – a streak that has spanned over eleven and a half years.

New WBO/WBA/IBF heavyweight champion, Tyson Fury, has warned WBC belt holder, Deontay Wilder, that ‘he will have to wait’ for any unification fight due to his rematch obligations to Wladimir Klitschko, though warned the American ‘I’m bred to be a fighter’ and laughed at the very mention of his name.

Following Fury’s fantastic win over Klitschko in Dusseldorf, Wilder wrote two social media messages, the first of which said – ‘I see you @Tyson Fury #ImComingForYou,’ followed by another message in block capitals that read, ‘I’m officially the best heavyweight champ of the world. Haters can acknowledge it or look foolish trying to deny it.”

Klitschko: ‘There Will Be a Rematch’

Former WBO/WBA/IBF heavyweight champion, Wladimir Klitschko, has confirmed that he intends to activate his rematch clause with Tyson Fury, and attempt to win back the titles taken by the Brit in style last night in Dusseldorf.

Despite Fury being a mandatory challenger, a rematch clause [unusually] existed in the contract, and the 39 year old former champion says he plans to exercise it, though gave Fury his due credit for the win, admitting the 6’9″ star was extremely quick for his size.

Former super-middleweight world champion and ‘Sky Boxing’ analyst, Carl Froch, believes Tyson Fury’s best chance of beating Wladimir Klitschko tonight in Dusseldorf is to get close and really try to ‘put it on’ the dominant champion.

Froch – in Germany to cover the fight for the British broadcasting giant – has poured cold water on the notion that Fury should try to get on his bike and box at range, claiming the impeccable distance and timing of Klitschko will mean he inevitably walks onto that one, big, fight-ending shot.
