An interesting tweet appeared on former world title challenger Dereck Chisora’s (21-5, 14ko) twitter account this afternoon, embedded with a short video discussing his immediate future options, that according to the Finchley fighter are European heavyweight champion Erkan Teper, American world title challenger Bryant Jennings, or Australian heavyweight contender Lucas Browne.
Chisora, who blasted out Beka Lobjanidze with the first serious punch of their fight last month in London, said in the clip;
“I have to choose 3 fights. The European title, Bryant Jennings or the Australian boy. So I’m wondering which fight is good for me? I prefer the European title ’cause that (Teper) guy has knocked out everybody and I know I can beat that guy in Germany. That’s what we’re going to talk about now and it’ll be very exciting so tune in on Boxnation.”
The 30 second clip was filmed en route to a meeting with Queensbury Promotions, who look after Chisora, and the tone and words used by Del Boy suggest there is a little more to it that simple rumour and conjecture.
EBU champ Teper (15-0, 10kos) was last seen obliterating – and ostensibly ending the career of – Liverpool’s David Price last month in Germany with a devastating 2nd round knockout, and while a good fighter, he’s not exceptional, and will provide a decent barometer of exactly what Del Boy has left if he is seeking to get back in the mix at top level.
Prior to the Lobjanidze fight last month, Chisora had been out of action since being soundly beaten by Tyson Fury last November in a rematch of their 2011 encounter which Fury also won.
Quite why he is so blase about traveling to Germany – the hotbed of bad decisions – is beyond this writer, although such must be his confidence in not allowing any fight with Teper to go to the cards.
Chisora put in a solid shift in the country in 2012, losing a fair decision on that occasion to Vitali Klitschko, although he has been screwed on the road before – in Finland in 2011 in the backyard of Nordic Nightmare Robert Helenius in a fight most right thinking fans felt he was extremely unlucky to lose.
Promoter Frank Warren had also recently tweeted that if fan demand was there for a clash with Australia’s Lucas Browne (22-0, 19ko), that fight could be made, although this is the first time Bryant Jenning’s name has been bandied around regarding Chisora as far as I am aware.
Jennings hasn’t boxed since April’s points loss to Wladimir Klitschko. Browne fights late replacement Julius Long this Friday in Australia.
