World heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko is scheduled to defend his titles against Tyson Fury on November 28, in a bout that will be televised live on HBO. For Klitschko, the long reigning king of boxing’s marquee division, Fury represents one of the more interesting challenges he has faced in years. Fury still possesses the hunger of an undefeated fighter to go along with decent skills, deceptive quickness, imposing size, and unrelenting determination and self-belief. On the other hand, Klitschko is a seasoned veteran with impeccable skills and an amazing control of both range and pacing. So who will emerge victorious? Will it be the experience and pedigree of Wladimir Klitschko? Or will it be the youth and determination of Tyson Fury?
The outcome of this fight will almost certainly come down to two key battles: (1) winning the battle of the jabs when fighting on the outside, and (2) getting the best of the action when the two find themselves fighting in close quarters and during clinches. If Tyson Fury can somehow manage to keep things on relatively even terms in the battle of the jabs, and if he is also able to outmuscle and overpower Klitschko on the inside while always looking for ways to unleash shots when trapped in a phone booth, then Fury may very well stand a chance to beat the 39 year old champion. Klitschko didn’t exactly appear to be on his A-game earlier this year in his most recent title defense against Bryant Jennings. But if Klitschko can command the action from the outside while controlling the range with his jab, and if he can also effectively neutralize Fury when fighting in tight, then it will likely either be a very short night, or perhaps a long punishing one for the British challenger.
