Today is February 26, 2015, and it has been six days since Floyd Mayweather Jr. posted an image of the signed fight contract for his bout against Manny Pacquiao. It is also 65 days until the first round bell rings for one of the most anticipated fights in the history of the spot. As always the case, the main question at hand is: who is going to win?

“The only thing I hope, that the young cat Mayweather, I hope they do give him his proper credit. Now he’s fighting Pacquiao, and what can you say? And if he should beat Pacquiao, now can you say he’s the greatest of all time? While Naazim doesn’t clearly indicate his pick, he has always been fond of Mayweather Jr., and the fact that Richardson brings up the possibility that Mayweather Jr. could possibly be the greatest of all time, speaks for his judgment of the undefeated champion.

In a talk with ESNEWS, Jeff Mayweather spoke on a glaring double standard that separates two of the top fighters in the sport – Floyd and Manny. It is my opinion that Mayweathers detractors are so hungry to see Floyd lose they will create a fighter who can beat him in their minds, even if he does not exist in the real world. By this I mean overhyping Pacquiao and talking him up to the point where casual fans really believe this is a 50/50 fight. It’s rare that you get a real 50/50 fight in boxing; this is not one of them.

A comparison between the opposition faced by these two guys was fair for a period. The pacman beat some legends in his time, particularly when he was moving through the lower weight classes and picking up titles left right and centre.

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr was once a top contender, and even a good champion. In 2011, he won his 43rd contest and captured the WBC world middleweight title from the previously unbeaten Sebastian Zbik. He would then make 3 consecutive defences before taking on Sergio Martinez, and losing.

In the fight with Martinez he went in with a record of 46-0-1 but was really dominated in the fight. Martinez was simply the better man in every department and the only thing that went Chavez Jr’s was a knockdown in the twelfth round.

Broners trainer Mike Stafford: ‘He’s got to box this guy’

In an interview with FightHype, trainer Mike Stafford seems to know what his fighter has to do come fight night with John Molina Jr in the other corner. When discussing the fight, Stafford came right out and said that Broner would need to box this guy to get the win.

Whether he outboxes him and uses his skills to take the decision, or turns up the heat later and gets the stoppage, he would need to stick to a strict gameplan to win this one. I agree with this approach, as we saw from the Maidana fight that Broner could potentially have trouble with powerful, come forward type fighters.

As a writer, I usually wait until right before a big fight to drop a few lines regarding the underlying mechanisms that make both fighters tick. As an electrical engineer in everyday life, facts that lead to successful systems and processes must be processed immediately for the sake of expediency. The fight that most if not all boxing fans have been waiting for being made has renewed this writers enthusiasm, so I write.

First of all hats off to both fighters for making this fight especially Floyd Mayweather. Mayweather must be congratulated for silencing the verbal misinformation, meeting with Pacquiao and making sure that all of the i’s dotted and t’s crossed during negotiations enabling BOTH fighters to earn the biggest paydays of their careers.
