Shobox: Tsurkan vs Toygonbayev, Zakeem Graham vs Ruslan Chagaev
21.05 -Yonkers Raceway has a guaranteed winner this Thursday night! Headlined by a bevy of Bronx and Yonkers fighters on a nationally-televised stage, Joe DeGuardia's Star Boxing presents a top-notch boxing card at the historic Hilltop oval in Westchester County this Thursday night, May 22. The main event features WBO no. 4 ranked super welterweight, the hard-hitting Uzbekistani Kuvanych Toygonbayev (20-1, 14 KOs) facing Russian Andrey Tsurkan (19-1, 12 KOs), now fighting out of the Bronx, in a 10-rounder.
The co-feature will pit two unbeaten heavyweights, the 2000 Olympian, up-and-coming Uzbekistani Ruslan Chageav (5-0, 4 KOs) against Zakeem Graham (9-0, 7 KOs) in another 10-rounder. Graham is a late replacement for Robert Wiggins. Showtime will televise on its popular "Shobox: the Next Generation" series live beginning at 11:00 pm.
"Yonkers fight fans have always come out to the raceway cards, so we knew that it would be a great site for Shobox," said DeGuardia. "We are happy to showcase these Bronx and Westchester fighters, and expect a strong turnout along with a great night of boxing."
Another pair of Bronx fighters - Craig Salamone and Newton Kidd - will also see action. Salamone (14-2-1, 4 KOs) takes on John Battle (9-7-1, 5 KOs) in a six round battle in the 190-pound weight division, while Kidd (2-1, 2 KOs) faces Brooklyn's Alexandra Nikolic.
