Profile: Mihaly Kotai - KO-Aritst in the Superwelter Division
Mihaly Kotai was born on 12th August 1976 in Nyiregyhaza, in the north eastern town of Hungary, and in the resent years become the best amateur boxer in Europe. He joined professional groups of boxers from the beginning of 2000, and since then he has contested in 13 boxing matches, which he won 9 by KO.
In fact he commenced sports by weight lifting in his childhood until the age of 13 when he changed to boxing, inspired by senior Mihaly Kotai all the way. He began with good results from his childhood. Right from the beginning he beat most of his contesters by KO in his youth group. He emerged as a Hungarian Champion at the age of 16, trained be senior Mihaly Kotai under the banner of NYVSC Nyiregyhaza. Similarly, he also won the title of the "Ace of Tokai" Tokai Asza during the live.
Two years later he transferred to Budapest together with his family and immediately began training in VASAS SC Group couched by Gyula Bodis.
From the time he joined the Hungarian Boxing Team he became a veteran member of the selected Hungarians. During the 9th Amateur World Championship of 18th to 26th October 1997, organized in Budapest.
Mihaly Kotai emerged to the 5th position after beating the Spanish boxer Dominques Castro.
Following these remarkable results he changed weight and began to train in the welterweight for the National Championship under Csaba Klein as his coach in 1999. He won the championship with wonderful fist work. The change from feather to welterweight therefore proved successful, because it renabled him to participate in the finals of the international tournaments.
During the qualification tournament he gained European Championship quota in Tampere and he won a bronze medal at the tournament organized to mark 33rd Amateur Boxing Championship during the 12th and 21st May, 2000. He squared Szaitov Oleg, who was not only the best boxer of the tournament and double European Champion but also the World Champion and double Olympic Champion by 4:1.
Mihaly Kotai commenced his professional boxing career on the first of September, 2000. He joined Polish Boxing Promotion the same year with the help of Laszlo Veres Promoter in Hungary. Presently he is training under the management of Olaf Schroder, who won the title of "European Manager in 1999".
Mihaly Kotai first appeared as a professional in a ring at match organized to in augur ate Kołobrzeg Sports Center, where he faced Koupil Marek of Cseh and knocked Marek down within the first round, thus achieving a great success. He could just fully be called the King of KO because of the fact than he won 9 professional matches, 6 with KO in the first round.
SPORT1 TV in Hungary first televised him during his fight against Holland boxer Daniels Ronnie, where he received a big ovation in the papers. In his next match which was televised by the EUROSPORT he sent French boxer, Nestor Aclombesi to the canvas after a record time of less than two minutes, after landing his left uppercut combined with the right hook, which action propped all Polish spectators to their feet in their loud ovation. After this fight Kotai decided to work exclusively with SPORT1 and under the flag of this leading sports channel scored 5 consecutive wins.
Mihaly Kotai spends his scare leisure time with his wife, whom he wedded on the 7th of October, 2000 in Eger, Hungary. He is keen on funky and soul music, and likes dancing, and going to the cinema too. Certainly, when he has some spare time on weekend he enjoys playing football. For sometime he used to pursue extreme sports, like parachuting: he had 11 landings. Today Mihaly Kotai places more emphasis on language, thus he learns English to enable him to communicate well on his frequent journeys abroad.
Mihaly Kotai by no means has become the everyday focal point of both electronic and the press media not only owing to his pleasing personality but also for his excellent results he has attained.
