11.02.04 – Professional boxing continues at the Seminole Tribe of Florida’s Coconut Creek Casino with an exciting lineup of bouts. The card features former WBO heavyweight champion Ray Mercer and Robert Allen as co-main events. The card, to be held at The Seminole Coconut Creek Casino will take place Saturday, February 28, and will consist of eight bouts including three North American Boxing Association championships and two female bouts.
Heavyweight Ray “Merciless” Mercer (32-5-1, 24 KOs) will square off against Steve Pannell (33-7, 27 KOs) of Roanoke, Virginia in a ten round heavyweight attraction. Mercer is coming off a two fight win streak, both by knockout. Mercer, the former Army sergeant, 1988 Olympic Gold medal winner and WBO heavyweight champion is fighting for the second time at the Seminole Coconut Creek Casino. Prom
The co-main event features Robert “Armed and Dangerous” Allen (36-4, 27 KOs) defending his International Boxing Federation No. one ranking in a ten round bout against TBA. In his most recent effort, Allen defeated Steve Walker by first round KO in November 2003 at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. Allen is the current mandatory to fight Bernard Hopkins for the IBF middleweight championship.
The undercard includes three NABA title fights. Whyber Garcia (13-1, 9 KOs) of Colon, Panama defends his NABA featherweight title against Robert Daniel Maldonado (13-0, 8 KOs) of Henderson, Kentucky. Garcia knocked out Bernard Harris in the tenth round on October 30, 2003 to capture the vacant NABA featherweight title. Ricky Quiles (34-6-3, 8 KOs) of Puerto Rico is challenging Luis Villalta (29-5-1, 24 KOs) of Lima, Peru for Villalta’s NABA lightweight title. Quiles is coming off an impressive decision over former world champion Eloy Rojas on December 5, 2003 at the Seminole Coconut Creek Casino. Current NABA flyweight champion Angel Priolo (29-1, 20 KOs) of Barranquilla, Colombia is making his first title defense against Jhon Molina (19-4-3, 13 KOs) of Colombia. All three NABA title fights are ten round bouts.
In other action, two female bouts are on the card as female sensation Belinda Laracuente (20-5-2, 9 KOs) of Bayamon, Puerto Rico takes on Iva Weston (8-0, 1KO) of Trinidad in an eight round lightweight bout. In other women’s action, Jennifer Mancil (1-2) and Laura Ramsey (Pro Debut) clash in a four round super middleweight bout. Local amateur favorite Ed Paredes is making his pro debut in front of his hometown crowd taking on Tomas Subial (0-1) of Miami, Florida in a four round welterweight bout.
