Only Four More Weeks Until “Undisputed: The War At 154!”

13.02.04 – Happy anniversary SUGAR SHANE MOSLEY! It was five months ago today – September 13, 2003 – that Mosley once again beat Oscar De La Hoya, this time for the WBC/WBA super welterweight titles, giving Mosley three world titles in as many different weight classes. Sugar Shane’s unanimous decision victory, which was televised by HBO Pay-Per-View, was the second-highest non-heavyweight pay-per-view in history, with over 975,000 buys and $50.2 million in pay-per-view revenue.

But inasmuch as today marks the five-month anniversary of that momentous victory, it also marks the final four-week countdown to UNDISPUTED: THE WAR AT 154! – the historic battle between Mosley, 39-2 (35 KOs), and IBF jr. middleweight champion Winky Wright, 46-3 (25 KOs), to determine the division’s first-ever undisputed three-belt world champion. Mosley-Wright, promoted by Gary Shaw Productions, LLC, in association with Square Ring, Inc. and Budweiser, will take place Saturday, March 13 at Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, NV., and will be televised live nationally on HBO, beginning at 9:30 P.M. ET / 6:30 P.M. PT.

“Every time I step into the ring, it is for history,” said Mosley from his training camp in Big Bear Lake, CA. “I am the only man to ever beat Oscar twice. I am one of the few to ever hold three world titles in three different weight classes. And next month, when I meet Winky Wright, I am going to leave the ring as the division’s first-ever undisputed champion, something Oscar and Felix Trinidad have never been or even attempted. If it is one thing I know, Winky Wright will walk out of that same ring as the second-best super welterweight in the world.”

The last time the 154-pound division had an undisputed world champion was when Koichi Wajima reclaimed the title from Oscar Albarado via a 15-round decision, January 21, 1975, before the IBF was established, in Tokyo, Japan. Since then, the title has been splintered with only Terry Norris, Trinidad, De La Hoya and now Mosley ever holding two of the three belts simultaneously.
