06.05.04 – The third installment of Cedric Kushner Promotions’ Heavyweight Heroes: the Search for the Next Great Heavyweight will headline one of boxing’s top young heavyweights, undefeated Samuel Peter, squaring off against Charles Shufford on May 17 from Bally’s-Las Vegas Event Center, it was announced today by CKP president Cedric Kushner.

The monthly pay-per-view boxing series is broadcast on In Demand. Heavyweight Heroes will be presented by Perfect 10 Magazine and Everlast Worldwide, and is available at a suggested retail price of $19.95 by contacting your local cable operators.

The Nigerian Peter, unbeaten in 18 professional fights, stands 6’1″ and is trained by the legendary Lou Duva. The 23-year-old phenom has registered 17 wins by way of knockout. Peter began his career with a flourish, posting six first round KO victories in his first seven fights.

Shufford has compiled a fine ring record of 20-5, with nine knockout victories. The Martinsville, VA native now fights out of Las Vegas, Nevada. He defeated now WBO heavyweight title holder Lamon Brewster in 2000, and has stepped into the ring with such outstanding heavyweights as Jameel McCline, Wladimir Klitschko and Lawrence Clay-Bey.

“Heavyweight Heroes is a truly meaningful heavyweight series,” said Kushner. “We have raised the stakes with the help of In Demand. The series will showcase the next generation of heavyweight stars. Heavyweight Heroes will offer quality matches, and is where the boxing fan will tune in to see important heavyweight bouts.”

CKP’s Jim DiLorenzo, executive producer of the series, has proclaimed Heavyweight Heroes “the ‘American Idol’ and ‘Star Search’ of the heavyweight division.” Celebrity judges, fans and boxing experts will analyze the fighters on a monthly basis, and a ranking system will be developed for interactive participation.

Heavyweight Heroes will also cater to the aficionado of women’s boxing. Each month, a stunning pair of Perfect 10 models will be pitted in a hotly-contested four round bout. Following months of vigorous training, the sexy Perfect 10 models are prepared to move from the photo shoot to the ring.
