07.06.04 – Four title belts will be on the line Saturday night (June 12) in “Enter The Sandman,” promoted by Jimmy Burchfield’s Classic Entertainment & Sports, Inc. (CES) in association with CN8 and Foxwoods Resort Casino, airing live at 8 – 10 PM/ET on CN8, The Comcast Network from Foxwoods in Mashantucket, Connecticut.
“Enter The Sandman” is the second of a five fight CES-promoted series shown live in primetime on CN8, to homes in New England and North Jersey, as well as Comcast Sports Southeast, and Cox3 in Rhode Island and Connecticut where CN8 is not available. It also will re-air network wide to 6.2 million homes on Saturday, June 19 at 2:30 PM/ET. Boxing fans nationwide can also view “Enter The Sandman” via CN8’s web site at www.CN8.TV. MSG also will show it on a taped delay basis.
NABF and IBU super middleweight champion Scott “The Sandman” Pemberton, rated No. 8 by the WBC and No. 15 by the IBF, as well as The Ring magazine as the “Most Fun to Watch” super middleweight in the world, continues his march toward a lucrative major world title shot. His original opponent, James Crawford, injured his ribs during training, and he has been replaced by an even tougher foe, former IBA super middleweight champion “Ramblin’” Rick Camlin (33-3, 10 KOs). Pemberton, fighting out of New Bedford (MA), has won 15 of his last 17 fights with one draw. He’ll defend his IBU and NABF belts in the 12-round main event against Camlin, fighting out of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
“I was psyched to fight Crawford,” Pemberton said, “but he got hurt and now I’m fighting a southpaw who has a better record than Crawford. In my position I can’t afford to lose because I have to stay on track (for a major world title fight). I’ve been sparring with (left-handed 15-0) Chad Dawson and I can’t get better sparring than him. I’ll be giving my best like I do every fight.”
IWBF and NABAW light welterweight champion Jaime “The Hurricane” Clampitt (13-2, 5 KOs), of Narragansett (RI), will defend both of her world titles in a 10-round special women’s feature against three-time former world champion Jane “Fleetwood Assassin” Couch (23-6, 8 KOs), of England. Clampitt has dedicated the fight to her trainer, Tiny Ricci, who is gravely ill in a Providence nursing home.
The undercard has a mix of veterans and prospects: light heavyweights Richard “The Alien” Grant (16-10, 2 KOs) vs. Shannon “Trouble” Miller and Joey “The KO Kid” Spina (11-0, 9 KOs), of Providence, vs. William “The Storm” Bailey; New Haven middleweight Elvin Ayala (5-0, 1 KO) vs. Jacob Rodriguez, Providence cruiserweight Matt Godfrey (1-0), 2004 Everlast US National champion, vs. Fitzroy Henry.
