12.02.05 – Action-Packed Show In Tanzania A Success…It was an action-packed night of professional boxing on Friday (February 11) when the Amana Hall in Dar-Es-Salaam opened its doors to the enthusiastic local fans. Seven fights were on the bill, and almost all of them provided crowd-pleasing excitement..
Heavyweight debutant Bernard Mwakasange made a controlled and satisfactory entrance into the paid ranks, as he scored a 40-38 decision from referee and judge Bakari Seleman. In Tanzania a half-point scoring system is used.
Really a super featherweight, Hussein Pazzi moved up to lightweight and proved too much for Tehodor Luanda, who was rescued by the referee in the third. Pazzi, who improved to 14-3-1 (5), pummelled his adversary from the start, and when consecutive hard blows connected in round three the ref had seen enough.
At super feather, “The Thunder”; Obote Ameme, came back from a disappointing loss (L6) last December to countryman Rashid Ally, when he annihilated one Hamad Said in the opener. Ameme, 23-6 (18), had too much power for the over-matched Said, and finished the job in convincing fashion.
Visitor Athanas Nzau from Kenya came into Tike Ogama´s back yard and went home with another “W” on his ledger. Nzau was in control in round one, had some difficulties in the second, but then took back over and dished out such punishment that Ogama retired on his stool before the fourth. Nzau is now 17-4 (6).
Fred Suyuni went to 2-0 (1), when he kayoed Hemed Hamad in the second of a scheduled four-rounder between newcomers at super bantam. Suyuni looked promising, and could be a name to look out for on the African boxing scene in coming years.
In the fight of the night, super bantamweight Issa Sewe had more trouble than expected against Jumanne Mtengela, and had to settle for a close majority decision after six tough rounds. Scores were 60-59, 60-59 and 60-60 (six rounds even???).
In the last fight of the evening, Chaurembo Palasa, now fighting at welterweight, registered an eight-round unanimous decision against the smaller Magari Mohammed. Scores were 79-77, 78-77 and 79-77. Palasa is now 14-7-1 (8).
