Halmich and Dzindziruk retain championship titles
Magdeburg – For the second time this year WIBF world champion Regina Halmich headlined an event of Universum Box-Promotion in Magdeburg, Germany. The 28-year-old German successfully defended her flyweight championship belt against American Hollie Dunaway with a unanimous decision over ten rounds.
The official scores were 99:91 twice and 98:92.
It was already the 38th win in a world title fight for Halmich who currently produces higher TV ratings than any other boxer (man or woman) on German TV.
Halmich, 47-1-1 (15), held world titles in three different weight classes in her career that is now lasting more than ten years.
For Dunaway it was her second world title fight. The 20-year-old woman already held the WIBA belt at the minimum weightclass.
It was the second convincing victory for Halmich after she only reached a draw against American Elena Reid in September 2004. In January 2005 Halmich beat Marylin Hernandez over ten rounds.
In the co-main event at Bördelandhalle of Magdeburg German based Ukrainian Sergej Dzindziruk successfully defended his European super welterweight title and kept his undefeated record with a unanimous decision over twelve rounds against Frenchman Jimmy Colas.
The purposeful EBU champion Dzindziruk was the dominant force in this contest and floored his challenger twice – once in round eight with a liver hook, once in round eleven with an uppercut. However, the brave Colas got up from the canvas in both cases and fought back as good as he could.
After twelve rounds all three judges had Dzindziruk clearly ahead by 119:108, 117:111 and 118:109.
By lasting the distance against Dzindziruk, 29-0 (21), Colas, 15-3 (7), broke the knockout streak of the Ukrainian who had stopped his last nine consecutive opponents.
Dzindziruk is fighting under the banner of Universum Box-Promotion since August 2003. He fought all three European championship contests against men from France, a country who produces many top contenders in the 154 lb. weightclass.
Dzindziruk is ranked WBO #1, WBC #4 and WBA #9.
