19.04.05 – Lafayette, LA—Dana Pitcher Productions, promoter of “Battle at the Blackham,” announces the line-up of bouts for their dynamic show on Saturday, April 23 at Blackham Coliseum in Lafayette, Louisiana. Pitcher is returning to Lafayette in 2005 and with him he is returning the same hard hitting action that Lafayette boxing fans have come to enjoy.
The main event will feature “Railroad” Tye Fields, 32-1, 30 KOs, of De Moines, Iowa, against Sedrick Fields; a crafty veteran of forty five contests , in an eight round heavyweight fight. This is guaranteed to be a very good match-up, Tye Fields scored a second round TKO against Ray Lunsford in his last fight in February 2005 . The six foot nine, 280-pound “Railroad” Tye is trained by the highly regarded Jesse Reid, who has had many world champions. Sedrick Fields is best remembered for defeating linear Heavyweight Champion Shannon Briggs back in April 2000 and a split decision lost to former heavyweight champion Oliver McCall in October 2000.
Featured in the evening’s co-main event will be hometown sensation Clifford “The Black Rhino” Etienne 29-3 (20 KO’s). This will be Clifford’s first time fighting in his backyard. “I’m a country boy, born in Lafayette and grew up in New Iberia and St. Martinville,” Etienne said. “This is my spot, my area. I’ve been a lot of places, but here when you pass by people wave at you. This is an exciting time for me.” “The Black Rhino” will do battle against the tough and durable Ken Murphy , who hails from Chicago, Illinois .
Crowd favorite “Handsome” Hector Beltran, 9-0 (7 KO’s), from Dallas, Texas, takes on Shawn Plessis, 10-2 (3 KOs) of Costa Mesa, California, in a six round lightweight match. This is sure to be a war, in a battle of highly regarded prospects. Plessis is also trained by the noteworthy Jesse Reid.
In a special six round attraction, welterweight prospects Troy Blackmore 6-3 (4 KO’s) tangles against Fariq Shadid 4-2 (2 KO’s).
Other action features Acadiana’s own Blake “The Candyman” Prevost (3-0, 1 KO), a light heavyweight from Lawtell in a four round fight against Rodney Spears of Tyler, Texas and the hard hitting Jesse Laura 7-1 (5 KO’s) of Dallas, Texas in a six-round junior welterweight contest.
In a women’s four round lightweight bout Robin Lerille, 1-0 (1 KO) of New Orleans, will box against Kim Conners 1-1(1 KO) of Little Rock, Arkansas
