10.05.05 – Promoter Art Pelullo/Banner Promotions will present a sensational championship fight card on Tuesday, May 24, 2005, in the Pend O’reille Pavillion at Northern Quest Casino, located at North 100 Hayford Road in Airway Heights, Washington. The fights will be televised live on ESPN2’s “Tuesday Night Fights.”
In the 12-round main event, “Smooth” Rodney Jones, 35-3, with 23 knockouts, of Stockton, California, will defend the North American Boxing Federation super welterweight title against Teddy “Two Guns” Reid, 23-6-1, with 17 knockouts, of Adelphi, Maryland.
Jones, a 13-year pro, is world-ranked across the board – No. 5 by the WBO, No. 6 by The Ring, No. 8 by the WBC, No. 9 by the IBF, and No. 14 by the WBA. He has won 11 fights in a row, nine by knockout or TKO, dating back to July, 2001, and is making his second defense of the NABF title. Reid, a 9-year pro, is ranked No. 5 by the IBF, No. 13 by the WBA, and No. 21 by the WBC. He currently holds the NABF interim super welterweight title, and is a former NABF welterweight champion. He is 4-1 in his last five fights, with all four wins by TKO.
The co-featured fight is still to be announced.
Local favorite Chauncy Welliver, 24-3-3, with 9 knockouts, of Spokane, Washington, will fight an opponent to be announced in a six-round heavyweight bout, and undefeated cruiserweight prospect Shawn Hawk, 6-0, with 5 knockouts, of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, is scheduled in a four-round fight against an opponent to be announced.
