Amir Khan Makes Pro Debut On July 16

16.05.05 – Following Amir Khan’s sensational victory over Cuban legend Mario Kindelan last Saturday night at the Reebok Stadium in Bolton, promoter Frank Warren is delighted to announce that Khan will make his professional debut on July 16 at the ExCeL London. The Bolton star finally got revenge over the double Olympian and three-time World amateur champion with a brilliant performance to win 19-13 on the scorecards in rematch of their final in Athen’s last year..

Now, the 18-year-old, regarded as the hottest young property in world boxing, will make his highly-anticipated debut on the undercard of Matt Skelton’s British Heavyweight title defence against Danny Williams.

Warren, who will manage and promote Khan, said, “Amir’s debut on 16 July will be the start of a journey that will hopefully lead to him becoming Britain’s youngest ever World Champion. I am really excited and looking forward to working with him to achieve this.”

Khan, currently in Estoril for the prestigious Laureus Sports Awards where he has been nominted in the Best Newcomer category, said, “I’m looking forward to making my debut and can’t wait to check out what is in store for me in the pros. As an amateur I’ve beaten everyone in the world and following my win over Kindelan there is nothing else I can do in the sport. Turning professionals offers me new and exciting tests and I aim to become the best out there.”

Williams, the former British Heavyweight champion who headlines the blockbuster show and bids to regain his crown, enthused, “Amir was fantastic against Kindelan and showed just how much he has improved since the Olympics. He seemed a different fighter with improved confidence against the Cuban veteran and was physically stronger as well. I am delighted that his making his pro-debut on the same show as me and wish him all the best for the future.”
