PRESSER QUOTES
Kevin McBride – “Tyson’s going to know right away he’s in a fight. I’ve been training real hard with Packy (Collins) and Goody (Petronelli). I’m going to shock the world. I’m 100-percent Irish and I’ve been fighting since I was nine. Representing my country in the 1992 Olympics was a dream when I was an amateur and fighting Mike Tyson has been my dream as a pro. My father told me if I dreamed enough about fighting Mike Tyson that someday I would. Mike Tyson is the greatest heavyweight of my generation; I idolized him.
“When I hit him on the chin he’s going to think the whole of Ireland hit him. I’m a bigger, stronger man and at the Washington DC press conference, when I looked down into his eyes, I saw myself as world champion. June 11 will be the best day of my boxing life. After I beat Tyson I want to fight for the world championship against any of the champs. I’m going to be the first Irish-born heavyweight champion of the world.”
Goody Petronelli (McBride’s head trainer) – “We’re taking on Tyson as if he’s in tip-top shape. He needs a win real bad. Kevin’s more prepared than for any other fight. He’s picked-up speed and is throwing combinations. I’m very confident about this fight. I’m not going to predict a round, but I doubt this fight is going 10 rounds. The first three Tyson’s going to throw everything but the ring-post. Hopefully, he won’t hit Kevin. Tyson has a few weaknesses that we’ve been working on and Kevin is going to be fully prepared for him.”
