12.07.05 – By Izyaslav “Slava” Koza: You two say you’re the best in the division, and that your willing to fight the other champions, yet nowhere do you mention that you wish to fight each other. Why is that? I understand you two are promoted by Don King, but just remember this isn’t Football, or Baseball, this is Boxing.. In other words, this isn’t a team sport, where you two can attack Vitali Klitschko (who has made his own stupid mistakes but that is another matter) as the “dynamic duo” and ignore the fact that you two can fight each other any damn time you well please. Don King is your promoter and you two still haven’t even mentioned each other as possible opponents for going on three years.
While we wait for God knows what, you, John Ruiz, have been mentioned in the same sentence as Kevin Mcbride, and you, Chris Byrd, in the same sentence as Davaryl Williamson and Wladimir Klitschko. To be honest, not one of those three guys has done anything close to enough to face you if you are the best in the division, yet you, Chris Byrd, are waiting to see which of them is ruled as #3, and secretly hoping its Williamson, while you, John Ruiz, are trying to sue James Toney for ruining your none existent fan base, personality or who knows what else.
Like I have written before, we can blame Vitali all we want, and we can blame the rest of the division, and whoever, but part of that blame falls on you two for not fighting each other. You both have been champs for three years, and faced off against one loser after another, claiming you are the best and so on, but you would rather listen to your promoter and try to get the WBC strap instead of unifying the other two trinkets.
We all know why you two are reluctant to fight each other, and that is because you guys have the worst styles of boxing ever. Ruiz, your style is the most pathetic fighting plan of any modern day fighter, and you know it. I admire the fact that your trying to appease the fans (at least according to Lampley) but if you are really serious about that, then make a statement about calling out Chris Byrd.
Byrd, your style can be exciting at times, but since your getting older those occasions are few and far between. Stop riding the Mccline win and risk your belt, or try to unify it. There is no point in pretending, your “wins” over chronic loser Golota (it wasn’t even a win btw), and against Fres Oquendo, are pathetic. You know it and so do we, no need to make excuses or pretend you were the clear winner, move on and prove who you are (if anyone) in the ring against John Ruiz.
I know there is no money in you two going at it, because of the reputations you have, as being boring, cautious, and annoying cowards, but if you want to change that, look no further then each other. A fight between you two may not sell a lot of tickets or gain a lot of fan support, because the fans are tired of BS, but maybe if you put yourself on the line, to try and legitimize your claims as true champions, perhaps your next fight, will carry a better fan response because of what you did in fighting each other.
This is the fight the Heavyweight division needs, not because it is exciting, but because it will prove more in the shortest amount of time. Until then, you can keep facing the same old tired opposition, and we the fans can continue not caring, and laughing at you two for trying to pretend that you are the best heavyweights on the planet. Your paths to greatness can only start with each other.
Furthermore, to Don King: we know you can make it happen as early as August, that is what we want, no more 4 belts and 4 pretenders, we the fans crave a champion. Vitali ain’t doing it, Brewster is fighting Krasniqi, and Byrd and Ruiz are doing nothing, give the fans a treat, like you know you can do
